This sucks. Even though I'm not really liking season 5 very much I was still looking forward to it coming back in March. It's been on hiatus for three long months already and to wait any longer for new eps is just absurd. Especially since this is the last season.

Yeah, it stinks that ABC is jerking it around when they can just let it finish up. Alias has been really good for ABC - for a while there it was the only show on the network that got any sort of buzz or critical acclaim while ABC was in the ratings basement.
They may be happy now with Lost and Desperate Housewives, but the least they can do is let Alias wrap everything up and send it out in style - not do what Fox is doing to Arrested Development, which is burning off the remaining episodes in one block opposite the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.

Bumping the thread in honor of Alias' two hour return on Wednesday.
Everything I have read says that the remaining eps are kick ass. Yay!

A couple of weeks ago I watched Disc Three from Season Three, and the resolutions and revelations from those episodes were so disappointing. I'm guessing that's the exact point where the show took the big nose dive so many have talked about.

I actually looked back to see what episodes were on there and I'm guessing you mean "Full Disclosure," perhaps? The episode which promised to reveal and solve everything that happened during Syd's missing two years and, well, kinda didn't make much sense and was pretty lame. Yeah, that blew. So very much. Though honestly, the whole setup gambit of "you've been missing for two years. And I'm married" was so very spectacular that there was no good way to solve it without it being a letdown. "The Telling pt. 2" (or whatever the S2 finale is called) remains one of the most mindblowing, awesomely good things that I've ever seen on TV -- all leading up to me being speechless and shock and demanding that the summer hiatus not exist.... I know it's not a popular opinion, but I really don't think the show ever got that bad. The acting of the fine, talented cast was always enough of a draw for me -- Victor Garber and Ron Rifkin need their overdue awards so much -- and I always regarded the show as really good escapist entertainment. If the plots were a bit more over-the-top and a bit less sensical, well, so is James Bond sometimes but both are really all about the style for me. And the horrible, complete screwing that Season Four got from ABC is pretty much unforgivable -- as others have said, Alias was their only praised & watched drama before Lost/DH/etc. No reason to be treated like that. For those who don't know, ABC ran the episodes out of production order, so the continuity/timeline got shot to hell -- i.e. in one episode Syd/Vaughn are passionate again yet in the next they're playing it cool...Similiarly, reducing the production order for the last episodes is pretty crappy as well. Studio heads, it's not your bastard redheaded stepchild, it's the show that made your network "cool" again in the 1st place. Meanwhile, in current news, the fricking ad during DH straight-up revealed Vartan's return! on Wednesday. Wow. That wasn't a big revelation that would be shocking or anything. And yes, speaking of being spoiled, I'm still kinda bitter that the stupid crazed fans ruined Vaughn's death by complaining to the media and freaking out about Vartan...look, you liked him, fine, but because of your personal vendetta and your beef with Jen for the relationship's end, you ruined it for EVERYONE by making enough noise to merit sidebars in EW and such. Thanks a lot, jerks.

I didn't think it ever got all that bad, either. I never stopped watching it, though I must not totally be in love with season four because I've been dragging my feet on buying the DVD set. I will do it eventually if only because I'm someone who needs the complete deal and there were some very good Jack and Sloane episodes in that season.
But, to me the show was usually entertaining, and the acting was almost always top notch - and I'd pretty much watch Victor Garber in anything. If they devoted an entire episode to Spy Daddy standing around picking lint off his suit, I'd totally watch it.
And I agree about the way ABC is treating it, but I've pretty much come to hate all network executives. Seriously - before Lost and Desperate Housewives, Alias was the only thing that nertwork had going for it and the only show that created any sort of buzz, and now they're treating it rather poorly. I understand cancelling the show - it has been around for 5 seasons and that's a long time for what is essentially a cult show and the actors are probably ready to move on to other projects - but screwing around with the scheduling right at the end and then cutting back the order was pretty crappy.
Heh. I'm glad you said it and not me -- the Vartan fans scare me. I stayed away from all Alias message boards for over a year because of their reaction to the whole "Vaughn's married" thing. I really don't like the Syd/Vaughn ship anyway - not that it is bad, but I hate the way it basically took over the show for quite a while there, and quite frankly, it isn't the most compelling relationship on the show to me. That one will always be Syd/Jack - and when that got put on the back burner so Syd and Vaughn could make kissy faces at each other, I was rather ticked with that move. I've actually really enjoyed this season with Vaughn missing (for the most part) - Syd has her spark back, and we get more Syd/Jack stuff.

That's exactly how I feel. I'm so easily bored with Syd/Vaughn, and I wish the show would focus more on other relationships and dynamics. I mean, I love Syd, but to be honest I probably would have given up on this show long ago if it weren't for Jack, Sloane, Marshall, Dixon, Irina, etc.
I can't wait for Wednesday's ep! I'm staying away from spoilers from here on out. I'm excited to see what happens.

I liked season just fine. I liked Lauren too although her transition to evil made no sense to me. It felt like they skipped an episode or back story. Vaughn bored me from episode 1, but Syd loved him and I love her so I mourned for her not me if that makes sense.
I am sooo counting down the minutes to Wednesday. I only wish the show could go on for years to come.
