Awww...you guys. I'm one of the Syd/Vaughn fans. I was upset about his "death" but not crazed. I was pissed off about the other Vaughn fans because they obviously didn't pay attention when JJ said last summer that Vaughn's "death" was NOT what it seemed. This was way before all the bitching and letter writing campaigns. So I knew after Prophet 5 that Vaughn would be back. I didn't get upset and just sat back and watched the rest of the eps. The other Vaughn fans obviously didn't get the memo.
And as an S/V shipper I adore the relationship because it is so "normal" and "boring". Syd has enough drama and crap going on in every other aspect of her life that she needs to have SOMETHING to count on. And for her Vaughn was that something. Syd leads a very dangerous and secretive life. Personally I think the girl was darn lucky to have Vaughn. Before he met her he had a fairly normal life. Jack can't be her safety net simply because the man has ALOT of secrets. Things that pertain to Sydney that he either can't or won't talk about. And he has done and will do alot of truly cold blooded things. Things Sydney, who is as good hearted as they come would disapprove of. They will always have an up and down relationship because of it. You can add Irina to that as well.
That being said I find Sydney Bristow BORING. I mainly watch the show for Jack, Sloane, and Vaughn. And Jack and Sloane have gotten ALOT less screentime (interesting storylines) so far in season 5 then they got when the show focused on Syd/Vaughn. I like Marshall too. But in very small doses. The only newbie I find interesting is Renee Rienne.
I'm hoping the rest of the season focuses more on the original group and less on Tom and Rachel.

I do think the Vaughn/Vartan fans turned me off to the character a little bit, as much as I hate to admit it. I have nothing against him; he was just never my favorite.
Plus, I'll always be a closet Syd/Will shipper. *hides*
I went back to TWoP to refresh my memory on what's happened so far this season, and I realized I'd completely forgotten about Tom and Rachel. Weird.

Yeah, Will was a cutie. And so sweet too. But his hair in the early part of season 1 was a travesty. LOL. I really, miss Will and Francie. I know they were not the most popular characters but I miss the balance they helped add to Sydney's life. With them she could just laugh and have fun. I liked Francie's interaction with Jack. She seemed to get a kick out of "Mr. Bristow" as she always called him. And Jack seemed sort of perplexed at her willingness to try to engage him in conversation. Like when she asked his opinion about what color to paint the walls of her restaraunt. Hee. The look on Jack's face was priceless. Jack is not a very sociable person.
I personally think that writing out Syd's best friends was the major downfalls of this show. It was more damaging then the whole Lauren/Vaughn/Syd fiasco. All of a sudden her life became all about work. She had no social life and no friends her own age outside of the agency. And that's sad because Syd is still very young. I truly hope that when this is over she'll get to go that deserted island with Vaughn and Isabel and live the rest of her life in peace. She's earned it.

Oh, me too. I loved the way he just kinda accepted Syd for who she was, including all the spy action, and didn't blame her for the way he was kidnapped, tortured, etc.
I agree that they made a mistake getting rid of Syd's "non-spy" life. To me, that was her break from her crazy world and when she could be normal. With them gone, it was all spying, all the time (I also loved Francie's interactions with Jack). Now (as pointed out above) the girl has no friends, and I think that was part of the problem with season four - there was only Vaughn to bounce off of. In season three they started out making Syd closer to Weiss, but that went away, and then in season four, they completely wasted any potential Nadia had.
I guess they are trying to bring some of it back with the new people, but again, they are all spies. I like Renee, Tom is okay (he's totally a younger Jack) and blondie - I can't even remember her name - is totally boring. Not quite working, but at least they are making an effort.
They haven't had as much Jack and Sloane stuff this season, but I've really appreciated the Daddy-Daughter stuff they've had with Syd and Jack. It is obvious that Jennifer Garner and Victor Garber adore each other, and it is nice when they have softer scenes together where they can bring their affection for each other to their characters. I can't wait to see Grandpa Jack.

I actually looked back to see what episodes were on there and I'm guessing you mean "Full Disclosure," perhaps? The episode which promised to reveal and solve everything that happened during Syd's missing two years and, well, kinda didn't make much sense and was pretty lame. Yeah, that blew. So very much. Yeah, that's the episode I was talking about, but I was being all vague in case there are more people out there like me who are trying to stay un-spoiled and watch the show in order on DVD. I didn't expect for the details of Syd's missing couple of years to be fully disclosed until the end of the season, and then right there they just tell you everything and it turns out to be ridiculous. Yeah, I still intend to watch all the DVDs until I've seen every episode. Although I've always admitted that I don't have the most discriminating taste when it comes to TV, movies, and popular music. I also think that Jen Garner is sooooo pretty on the cover of the Fourth Season DVDs. That's a gorgeous picture of her.

I'm excited to have it back tonight too. Strangely, this morning I was thinking about how much I miss Marshall - I found him kinda irritating at first, but he has really grown on me.

I definitely think the Vaughn/Vartan fans turned a lot of people off from his character. However, I started disliking him because of the whole Season 3 fiasco. I just never thought he was good enough for Syd after that, and I still don't. (Damn them for not ever exploring SWill...I loved them together too). But Syd loves him, and he's the father of her child, so having them ride off into the sunset would not bother me too much.
Ultimately, I just need to see more action Syd. Yeah, it's probably completely shallow of me to say, but I only started watching the show b/c I saw the beautiful Jennifer Garner kicking ass in crazy wigs and tight dresses. That brought me in, and the character's relationships kept me hooked. However, Alias is not Alias w/out the action/adventure part. I know the show's strongest points are it's characters and actors, however, it's the combination of all those things that make it so damn good.

I've watched Alias from the beginning, except for this season. I'm a Vaughn/Vartan fan and proud of it. His relationship with Sydney was the only thing that kept me watching throughout a lot of ridiculous Rambaldi crap. Having the writers marry him off to Lauren for all of season three so they could artifically keep Sydney and Vaughn apart for the sake of conventional television wisdom pissed off many fans. It was contrived, overdone, and went on for the whole damn season. It also made both Sydney and Vaughn act out of character. You would expect the writers to come up with a better solution and TPTB to come up with a better actress than Melissa George for the triangle. If you want to see angry fans for a similar reason, look to The Gilmore Girls. Nonetheless, I stuck with it until I heard they were going to be foolish enough to actually kill Vaughn. After making you care about Sydney and Vaughn for four seasons, they shouldn't have been at all surprised that fans were upset that it was all for nothing. Sydney deserved a happy ending, especially now that she was having his child. Without Vaughn, there couldn't be a satisfying one. I'm not one for letter writing, but I wrote ABC and told them how I felt. That doesn't make me a scary fan. It does make me one who cared enough about one of their shows to tell them how I felt. To their credit, ABC tried to make it end right after starting season five out so wrong. Fortunately for them, Michael Vartan finished filming Rogue in Australia in time and was nice enough to return to Alias after he had been let go. I'm happy on both accounts because now it looks like Alias will be able to finish the way most fans wanted: with a happy Sydney and Vaughn, hopefully free of the spylife.

I'm a proud S/V shipper. I was seriously pissed when they let Vartan go, for whatever reason. I haven't watch much Alias this season, but I must admit when I saw SpyMommy, I had to come back. There's nothing like the Bristows kicking ass.
Spoiler: I knew Vaughn was alive thanks to People magazine spoiling the season finale on Tuesday with a picture of Syd/Vaughn/baby on the beach. Thanks alot, People!
