I liked the 1940s skit I love that she has the fast talking forties voice down pat. Speaking as a mother, the Christmas Presents song was spot on and I was laughing way too hard while side-eying my husband. The skit at the end using her old character I could've done without though.

I think she does much better in non-recurring sketches. When she was a cast member she would latch onto characters and you would see the same sketch over and over again. I liked the USO sketch, that was probably my favorite.
I found her botox (and maybe fillers?) to be super distracting yesterday. She’s normally pretty expressive but you just can’t do as much when half of your face is frozen.

I like her just fine when she's playing it straight. The song about the whole family getting Christmas presents except for Mom was cute. I haven't stayed up to watch an SNL since Obama's first term, but I did just catch this online and have to admit, I cracked up.

It was pretty funny, and it made me glad that in our family we tell each other what we want. Mom got one really bad present from Dad when they were dating and decided from thence forward that she would pick out her own presents. It's saved us a lot of aggravation and potential Catholic guilt over the years.

Last night's episode made me realize how much I can't stand Kristin Wiig's "characters" on SNL. I lasted about 30 seconds into that sketch where she did her old timey actress character (with Kate McKinnon at her hammiest worst too). I didn't even bother unmuting for the 1940s sketch or that thing she was doing near the end with her turtleneck. And her monologue was awful too. I like her as an actress, but I don't like her on SNL. I liked the 1940s sketch mostly because of Bowen Yang and Dua Lipa, but other than that the sketches involving Wiig’s recurring characters and the monologue were awful. Unfortunately I think Kate McKinnon is in the same category for me now. I used to find her hilarious, but then I felt they quickly started overusing her for almost every white guy in the Trump administration that wasn’t Trump or Pence. I did find her hilarious in the cat skit that she did for one of the quarantine shows, but I think that might be the last time I’ve actually enjoyed her. Last week’s Dr. Wenowthis was one of the few blemishes on a pretty entertaining show aside from the cold opening where she was Dr. Fauci. I love Chloe Fineman now, but I hope that in a few years I don’t feel the same way because I could see as a rising star at the present time, they might overuse her in a few years like with Wiig and McKinnon. Unfortunately other than Bowen Yang, the other newest castmembers haven’t stuck out at all despite the fact that it’s already almost 2021 imo. With McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Cecily Strong possibly leaving, or not as appearing as much like they have this season, I hope that means Ego Nwodim and Melissa Villaseñor will get to shine more.

I miss Aidy. Because covid messed up filming schedules she’s been filming Shrill. Cecily was gone for the same reason- she was supposed to film something over the summer but it got pushed to the fall.
I feel like most cast members are best when they’re in the middle of their time there. When people get really big they get lazy and start relying on the same sketches over and over again. (Keenan might be a good exception to this, I love him and he doesn’t repeat his characters too much.)

The Christmas Morning skit was hilarious! I was laughing way too hard at it, too. She seems to do better with those type of bits and not those "go-to classics" (if you can call them that!) that she is known for. If it was "The Californians" with some of the original peeps, I'd be in...but everything else is just meh.

I remember always thinking it was unfortunate that she seemed to have a permanent double chin regardless of how thin she was. She's possibly thinner than ever right now, but I don't think her chin would be so taut without surgical intervention. She actually looks very much like Barbara Corcoran from Shark Tank now with the haircut and Botox. Watching the episode now, the monologue was fine up until the song portion. And yeah, Kate McKinnon seems to just be winging it/hamming it up for the hell of it, like a kid on the day before summer vacation.

I hate Kristin's silver hair and pixie cut, but I realize that's not a valid reason to dislike her. I feel like most cast members are best when they’re in the middle of their time there. When people get really big they get lazy and start relying on the same sketches over and over again. (Keenan might be a good exception to this, I love him and he doesn’t repeat his characters too much.) I think it's the show's fault that they tell the cast to bring out their hit characters whenever the episode feels a little thin. Somebody once pointed out that famous characters like Steve Martin's Wild and Crazy Guy, or the Coneheads, appeared on the show all of about TWO times total. Now there are about 25 Stefon appearances you can pull up on Youtube. (I love Stefon, but that's a lot.) I don't think Keenan has very many trademark characters. I have a hard time thinking of many. But I think the writers really rely on him to be thrown into a sketch and do whatever they need him to do and make it funny. He's their all-purpose guy. He now does all of the gameshow host sketches that Bill Hader used to do. Kate McKinnon is their all purpose gal and she's totally overused. They just slap a bald cap on her, and she goes out doing her crazy eyes/crazy smile face and talks funny and that's every single political sketch.

I need to confess that I love the Kristen Wiig character on the Lawrence Welk Show with the high forehead and baby doll hands. That one always made me laugh.
I haven't watched SNL live in a couple of decades though, so I am always only seeing specific skits online. I don't have a sense of the whole show dragging on.
ETA: I've been down a deep YouTube rabbit hole. The character's name is Dooneese and she still makes me laugh.
