The worst is that football dad. I see a Tim McGraw moment a la Friday Night Lights in that kid's future. That kid could have zero talent and his dad would still be pushing him. And although I hate to dog on people for their jobs it's clear that he's never been able to get past not being in the NFL and build an adult identity. Very sad.
The other parents aren't as bad as I thought they would be. I was pretty disconcerted with the cheerleader stuff regarding the outfits, the makeup and the dance moves, but that kid did seem pretty focused,

Whenever I hear the title of this show, I'm reminded of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas's own 'Tight End Zone' and one of the sayings: "Sure, I want my kid to be rich and famous I can sit around all day doing nothing."
And you know what? I think these parents would agree in the long run.

I finally watched it last night. Although nothing will ever beat Showbiz Moms and Dads, what with Duncan Nutter and the extremely talented Shane Klingensmith, this was pretty good. My heart goes out to figure skater Bryce. I don't envy him at all when he has to come out of the closet to his beast of a mother.

dammit! I am so mad that I've already missed the first episode of this. I loooved SBM&D but only caught a clip of the pet one.
THe sports genre is the perfect environment for this type of show. I just wonder how the hell they get these parents to sign up? Don't they know they will only look bad???

I was a skating mother for years, my daughter went pretty far and for a long time, it was a greta thing for her.
But, back to the point of my post, some of the parents are desperate and will do ANYTHING to put their kid out there, to possibly give them the edge. Several years ago a producer approached several skaters in my area to do a show something like this. It was pretty obvious they were looking to put a negative spin on the situation. Every parent approached turned the offer down. One parent who was truly crazy, took the offer. She came across horribly on the show, pretended she had no idea that it would come out that way. The show was horrible, she came off like a Nazi parent (which was the truth) and was secretly thrilled that her daughter was on tv.

So with the forums down i haven't gotten to share my hate for EVIL Cheer mom. Did anyuone else hear her son (Seth i think) talk about some dance troupe she started and saying that he thinks that kids on cell phones who think it is gay sell drugs? Or somthing to that extent. If he wasn't shoved in the lockers or beaten the crap out of before i am sure he is getting the brunt of it now. I forgot most of the other crap in the show but I still love it, it tells me how NOT to parent, and lets me know that i am saner than some people.

Me too! I kept checking in just to bust on her. Lord. I did feel bad for her son, he seems like a good kid. She is nuts, however.
What do you think drives a parent like that? Is she like the football dad, obviously living through her child? Or is she someone with the drive to always be busy and she passes that on to her kids? I notice we've never seen or heard a thing about her husband.
It's a secret fear of mine that I will have kids and lose my damn mind like that.

Someone over at TWoP had posted about attending a seminar from a youth sports psychologist (or something like that) who asked the sports parents in one of his seminars to raise their hands if they thought they could have gone pro/Olympics/etc. with the proper training and encouragement. Apparently 95% of them raised their hands. That tells me all I need to know.

I think all parents want to believe that their kids can conquer the world at what they do.But it is the parents who push their kids when all they want to do is play outside. hiring chiropractors for 8 year olds, The cheer mom on SpKM&D, putting her children's extra curricular activities before school. Which annoys me to no end, I remember girls in high school who put all their energy into their choir, band or sport in hope of a scholarship. Then failing to realize that they also need to keep their grades above a B in order to receive the scholarship.
I think he just regurgitates the crap mommy tells him to.
A blurb on the show (ala- Brandon sells cell phones) said she never made her cheer-leading team so take that for what it is worth.
