Woah. I've never really followed the behind-the-scenes drama for the show and this really shocked me! Does he have a reputation for this kind of behaviour? Also, I can't believe anyone could get would get so worked up about the writing at this point - it's been less than great for a fair while now.

I don't wanna watch Criminal Minds without Hotch.

He's been fired:

Thomas Gibson’s suspension from Criminal Minds has been made permanent. The producers of the long-running CBS crime drama have move to terminate Gibson’s contract following a physical altercation on the set of the show, produced by ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios, with ABC Studios running lead.

Here is the joint statement from ABC Studios/CBS TV Studios:

“Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds. Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.”

Gibson had been suspended for 1-2 episodes (2 weeks) following the incident, which allegedly involved him kicking co-executive producer Virgil Williams. There also had been a previous on-set incident several years ago, when Gibson had to undergo anger management counseling after hitting assistant director Ian Woolf. The decision to dismiss Gibson was made after an internal review.

While I'm glad they are taking things seriously--violence in the workplace is never acceptable--I think it's a show-killing move.

Nah, he's such a mumbling downer as a character (unless he's changed in the last season, I stopped watching). The cast is strong without him and I always thought there were too many anyway. And it's a procedural, so it's really about the storytelling.

Hot tempered violence should never be tolerated. After the first time, give him a chance to clean up his act, but this is his second offence, so bye-bye. Maybe they can give the role to Matthew Fox.
