The cast of The Tudors is drop dead gorgeous. From what I've read, historical accuracy will be taking a backseat to sex and more sex. IIRC, there were 4 sex scenes in the first ep.

Showtime on Demand has the first two episodes up as well. I know what I will be watching tonight.

I finally got through the first episode, and I was pretty disappointed. Then again, a lot of shows aren't that great in the first or second eps, so I will give it another chance. I just didn't think there was much substance there. And I am really not buying Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Henry. I shudder for the Anne Boleyn episodes, because that girl playing her was one fug little thing who didn't seem to be a very good actress in the small scene that she had. But maybe someone else will have the role when she's a little older and plays into the storyline more. It will be a shame if they don't have someone great in that part.

I'm not giving up on it yet, but yeah, I didn't love it either. Which is too bad, because there is so much potential with this story. Th biggest problem for me was Rhys-Meyers, who to me simply cannot pull off Henry VIII. Even when he was younger Henry was a big guy, very athletic, and Rhys-Meyers looks puny. And the woman playing Catherine of Aragon looked old enough to be his mother.
I actually spent most of the first episode trying to figure out who that guy was who played Buckingham, I knew I had seen him somewhere. I finally determined that he's Duncan, from Last of the Mohicans.

He is so miscast to me. I thought the guy who played Buckingham should have been cast as Henry VIII. Good actor, big athletic guy, red hair! I agree Rhys-Meyers cannot pull it off, and I've seen the second episode and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'm holding out hope, because you would really have to try to botch a miniseries about Henry VIII.

I haven't seen an entire episode yet but from just viewing the ads, that was the first thing that stuck out for me. JRM is just not pysically suited to that role.

Also, I heard that they go ahead and move into the Anne Boleyn relationship with him still young and fit? What the hell? Like I said, I've only seen the first episode so far but are they really just trying to be as historically inaccurate as possible? This show really confuses me.

I knew we were in trouble when they started the series in Italy, with someone who in reality was really really old at the time, with an act that never happened.
They obviously just want a young, hot Henry so I have no idea if they'll attempt to move into his relationship with Jane Seymour. I can't suspend my historical nitpicking, but not that far.

I am not feeling this either. I have tried to be open minded to this but just coming off of Rome, which was brilliant even in it's fictionality (is that a word?) just points out how much weaker this series is. I was bored throughout and was missing my Rome gang that much more.
