My family watched this show (and "Alice") religiously on Sunday nights (surprising, seeing as how my mom was such a prude). I'm racking my brain but can't remember building super Schneider's catchphrase. What was it?

That's right, he did have a catch-phrase, but evidently not as memorable as the Fonz' "Whoa..."

This show first aired right around the time that my parents separated, and my sister and I were the same ages as Julie and Barbara. But any similarities kind of petered out after that. It always bugged me that "good girl" Barbara chose to keep her virginity until she married. Like, would she no longer have been "good" if she'd decided not to?

I remember Bonnie Franklin (Ann Romano) chewing up acres upon acres of scenery. She kind of irritated me.

The only thing I liked about this show was the theme song.

I thought the whole trajectory of Julie's character was pretty danged good.

And I am itching for the DVDs with the "Lambs of God" episode to come out!

EVERYBODY SURE YELLED A LOT ON THAT SHOW!!!!!!

Schneider used to say: "Please always remember and never forget..." before he gave some lame advice. Does that count as a catchphrase?

I liked Schneider's vest, his little mustache and the way he worked that toothpick.

I have not been able to get the damn theme song from this show out of my head since the Valerie Bertinelli thread popped up.


I watched this show all the time as a little kid. For some reason, the only scene I remember relatively well is some scene where Barbara was complaining about how everyone ordered her around like a robot, and she was demonstrating by moving like a robot and saying things like "Do this, Bar-Ba-Ra. Do that, Bar-Ba-Ra." Then Schneider walked in behind her and probably said something snarky and mildly inappropriate.

And yes, everyone on this show really did yell a lot.

I hated the mother! I remember an episode where the upstairs neighbor, David (and I can't believe I remembered his name) was trying and trying to start a romantic thing with her and she kept coldly brushing him off. So he gave up and struck up a romantic relationship with another woman. Then , as soon as she found out about it suddenly the mother changes her mind, boots the other woman out of the picture and moves in on the guy. I remember that even as a little kid I was thinking, "Tell her to go to hell! Tell her she had her chance and blew it!"

Man, did I hate that mother. I loved both the daughters, though.

For such a geeky looking teenager, Mackenzie Phillips actually turned out to be an attractive adult. Unusual looking, but attractive.
