I watched Edward Scissorhands for the first time yesterday. I think it's the only movie I've ever seen Winona in. I was watching to catch up on my backlog of Johnny Depp movies.

I'm doing the same thing! My perennial Johnny Depp crush is blooming again. I'd be happy to join you in a gushfest in the JD thread...

All Winona did in Scissorhands was mope around like a bratty teenager (she *was* a bratty teenager at the time, so that couldn't have been too hard) and look tremulously at Edward with those big brown eyes. I think the only reason Winona ever got praise was because people were kind of enthralled by her beauty and not thinking clearly. And maybe because she was in a string of really good movies nobody noticed that she wasn't actually very good *in* them.

Winona may not be all there, and I understand that she had/has a drug problem, but she was stunning when she was younger, and she can still turn it on (when she's not highlighting her hair).

She didn't manage her career as well as I would have liked. I think she needs to work with an acting coach and a voice coach, and she could do good work. I guess I have a soft spot for her b/c A. she's my generation and B. she is so damn gorgeous. Those eyes have some soul behind them. I would love to see her have a real come-back.

It would be a pleasant change--let's face it: with the "hottest" stars today being people like Gwyneth, Julia or the various Jennifers, it would be fun to see somebody really pretty onscreen.

I think people mistook her gothy darkness as acting depth and when she grew up but not out of it, then the ruse was uncovered.

Hopefully people will eventually realize with Natalie Portman that doe eyes and "soul" do not equal acting talent. I still maintain NP is Winona version 2.0.

She held her own in Age of Innocence. Is it true that she ditched Depp for Danial Day Lewis, and then of course he ditched her. I read something at the time that Johnny kept waiting for her to come back and she never did. Set me straight someone.

I'm glad to hear she's got some work coming out.
