I saw Robert Plant in concert a few weeks ago and I dove headfirst into Led Zeppelin and Plant's solo stuff from the eighties. Isn't he wonderful? Mr. d. and I saw him when he toured with Alison Krauss, and with Jimmy Page years before that. Friends who worked backstage said he was friendly and appreciative of their hard work.

I was in the mood to listen to one of my favorite artists, Laura Nyro. She's one of the musicians whom I wish was more famous in life because of their superb talent and unique style (like Nick Drake).I'm listening to Eli and the Thirteenth Confession. Sadly, I only heard about it her after her death, and bought the CD after Rolling Stone had a "Women of Rock" issue (their ONLY one and that was in 1996 or 1997). Not to brag, but I love to sing along because her vocal type (mezzo-soprano) and vocal range (three octaves) are similar to mine. Also, she was bisexual (like me) and wrote what is the first pop song about a lesbian relationship, "Emmie". In an eerie note, Laura's mother died of ovarian cancer in 1975 at 49. Laura died of ovarian cancer in 1997 at 49. I'm not superstitious, but that's a hell of a coincidence. Take a listen.P.S. - Sadly, Tom Verlaine of Television died. I'm listening to Marquee Moon in his memory. R.I.P., Tom.

I just listened to Fall Out Boy's "We Didn't Start the Fire" cover and...I apologize to any boomers who are upset about this "update". Starting off with Captain Planet is certainly an odd choice. Between G-Eazy's "Lazarus" David Bowie re-do and Puddle of Mudd's "About a Girl" Nirvana "interpretation", I think that 2020's are due for a re-boot.

Dolly Parton’s Rockstar CDs. She’s such a National Treasure! Most of the songs are duets and some are with the original singers of the song. Purple Rain is a solo. I think Prince would have had a great time singing with Dolly!

Thanks for mentioning Rockstar! I am listening to it right now and it is a ton of fun. I think everyone on it is having a great time.

I listened to Jacob Collier's Djesse Volume 4, and it was an experience. I can't for the life of me describe music that is made by a human but still feels like AI. Jacob is technically competent and knows music theory, but just doesn't have passion or emotion. It features so many better musicians (Brandi Carlile, Tori Kelly, Camilo, Anoushka Shankar?, Michael MacDonald?!?, Kirk Franklin?!?) and others (John Mayer, Chris Martin), but feels hollow. It tries everything (maximalist pop, gospel, Indian classical, K-Pop, Latin pop, rap?!?, metalcore "screaming"?!?) . The butchering of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" pains me; shame on you, John Legend! Taylor Swift's the tortured poets department was 5/10, just mid. This video on short songs introduced me to this song by Pinegrove I can't wait to get a new phone so I don't have to listen to it in a library!

This is pretty tangential, but I think that, of the existing threads, this is the best place….
Because, whatever you are listening to, there is a high probability that the artist who made it, has worked at one of the three locations of the Record Plant recording studios. New York and Sausalito locations closed years ago, but the LA studio has just announced it will be closing.
Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours. Alice Cooper Goes to Hell. A few Black Sabbath albums. Kiss’ Destroyer (well, that was the NYC location). They installed a steam bath for Bill Withers, and pinball machines for the Eagles while they made Hotel California. The scenes of Keith Moon in bondage gear in The Kids Are Alright were filmed there. So. Many. Records!
As long as I have wanted to have my own studio (and even when I got it!) I dreamt of making it my own Record Plant. And when I win the lottery, I bloody well will!

I've been re-listening to Jeff Buckley since Grace will have its 30th anniversary this August; time flies for an album I remember coming out when I was 12! Thanks to the Internet, there have been covers that have been leaked, such as his covers of Elton John's "Curtains" or the Gershwin's "I Loves You Porgy". I'll admit that I put him on my music rotation rarely; the romanticization of his premature death (no thank you, TikTok!), the "Hallelujah" overplay (this doesn't need to play during your goldfish's funeral), and the glut of vocal imitators (seriously, it's a LOT) really dilute Jeff's impact for me. Fortunately, this has given me a chance to find "new" versions, such as this gorgeous live version of "Lover, You Should've Come Over" from February 1994. Thanks for what we have, Jeff.

Oh wow, 30 years?!? Unbelievable! Jeff Buckley is one of my all time favorites too. Brings me right back to college and that heady time of angst and yearning. His voice just evoked such passion. What a freaking talent who we lost way too soon. "Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk" is also sublime. I totally agree with you that "Hallelujah" was so overdone. His version will remain my favorite! I wonder if they'll release a vinyl version commemorating the anniversary. If so, I'm sure it'll sell out super fast.
