Dear Girls Aloud:
You knows I love you, but explain this:
I got one Alabama return that'll take me far away from you cause when you take me in your arms I turn to slave but I cant be saved
- taken from their new single "Biology"

Boy, the songwriter was really stretching with that rhyme. He couldn't have written "If you're from the Phillipines, you'll do it" or "People who don't have spleens do it" or anything else? Oh, that's not the worst lyric in the song. The ones about fish make me go "why?" more. That song and "You're The Top" have so many verses that are just so weird.

Here's another old one: Mungo Jerry's In the Summertime:
If her daddy's rich Take her out for a meal If her daddy's poor Just do what you feel ...
I hated that. So, if your girlfriend doesn't have money, it's okay to just f*** her and leave her, eh? Grr!

That's always bugged me, too, Shalamar.

I wanted to like that Mungo Jerry song so much when it came out but that line wrecked it for me.
The one about "even educated fleas do it"...I think it's supposed to be dumb. They were weird back then, what can I say.
Another oldie I want to like but can't because of one line. . . Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids In fact it's cold as hell And there's no-one there to raise them if you did
Huh? If you did raise your kids on Mars, doesn't that imply you were there? Don't make me talk to Bernie about this.

What, you should want uneducated fleas to do it? Slate has an extended explanation of "You're The Top"'s odd lyrics here, with further analysis here.

I think Shanice is a contender for worse song lyrics, check out the gem that is "Every Woman Dreams":

::blinks:: So unconditional love from a man is equated to him buying a woman designer things? I'd better alert TTMR. Seriously, how far we've fallen from Madonna's "Express Yourself":

Have to defend Shakira here...no, she's not the most articulate, and yeah, she comes off as kinda nuts, but I like her brand of kinda nuts. At least she's not writing trite, awkward lyrics (which brings me to the point of my post, but I'll get to that in a second)...I figure this is the place to ask...doesn't that song remind anyone else of Sheryl Crow's "Anything But Down"?
Topic: I hate "Because of You"..."I never strayed too far from the sidewalk..I stayed on the same side of the road so I don't get hurt". Not only do they sound awful, but the delivery is just aaaaargh.

Those lyrics make me want to drive up on the sidewalk and run her over. The video doesn't do anything to help that, either.
I hate everything about that stupid new INXS song, "Pretty Vegas." I hated it on Rock Star: INXS, I hate it now even more. "I ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you"? Cram it, JD. (Although, in his favor, I do not hate his song as much as I violently hated the runner up's piece of ass "Trees.")
