Songs that have been ruined for you

Two songs that are being ruined for me by CONSTANT AIRPLAY:

"Unwritten" - Natasha Bedingfield (okay, we get it, new chick anthem, grr)

"Bad Day" - Daniel Powter (Look, I like this song, but I wish SOMEONE would acknowlege he sounds like a Train ripoff)

'Hallelujah.' Everyone and their mother is covering 'Hallelujah' and it's starting to drive me crazy. kd lang gets a pass because she's kd lang, but that's about it. I call a moretorium on covers of 'Hallelujah.' There is a plethora of other Leonard Cohen songs to bastardize.

'New Orleans is Sinking' by the Tragically Hip has kind of been ruined for me as well. I can still appreciate it as a great song, but I have a weird phobia of being killed by a natural disaster, and so it kind of gives me panic attacks now. Which is lame.

I got another one: "Runaround" by Blues Traveler. I loved it when it came out. After everyone started playing it over and over...bleh.

Most Aerosmith songs get me, too. However, I call exception to "The Other Side". It makes me want to jump on a bar and dance.

You're right! He does sound like Train, only squeakier. Hearing that this is overplayed makes me really glad I don't have a radio. I was so excited to hear it on the radio the first time; I was studying abroad in the fall and it was already out where I was, so I missed it and hearing it again brought it all back.

I still can't listen to "If You Could Only See" by Tonic, due to radio overplay what must be at least 8 years ago now.

Jeff Buckley did a great cover of it too.

Indeed. The Jeff cover is heavenly.

The multiple covers of "Hallelujah" don't bother me as much as the song turning up on every other TV show I watch (Cold Case, The O.C., West Wing, Without A Trace, et al). I like the song (esp. Jeff Buckley's version), but TV producers need to give the song a rest, already.

Plus, what the eff was "Hallelujah" doing in Shrek? Have we unwittingly scarred an entire generation with premature exposure to Leonard Cohen?

That and Black Hole Sun! I swear they have been playing those two songs every 30 minutes on all radio stations since they were recorded. And they're not short songs.
