I can't listen to songs like Hotel California, Only The Good Die Young, and Summer of '69 knowing how all these guys sang about hoping to die before they got old and being too fast to live and too yoing to die. Now they're in their 50's, have kids in grade school, and make huge bank with reunion tours and VH1 specials. It's fine that they were cashing in one the image at the time, but it's not like the songs really hold up for me anymore.

Inna Gadda Davida-- or however the hell that song is spelled. It's being used to sell life insurance now. Whahaha!
I so want to travel back in time with that commercial so I can show it to hippies. I will snicker to myself, and quietly return to my time with no further explanation.

There was a time back when Queen was fairly new to me in the early 80s that I could really enjoy Bohemian Rhapsody and be thankful that it was one of those obscure songs for anyone who wasn't an early Queen fan (at least here in the US) then Wayne's World had to go and ruin it for me!! Soon people were singing it in stadiums. Why Why? I also used to love Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas until the radio constantly played and replayed that as the only Kansas song ever played on the radio (pop stations). Another one bit the dust. (Sorry for the lame Queen pun ) Almost forgot. My brother bought the Queen single We are the Champions and I loved the obscure "b" side song better. The name of the song? We Will Rock You. It took off as a bigger hit and 80s highschool football games and my enjoyment of the song were never the same.

I hate all the pop stars who try to cover classic rock songs. Think Madonna covering John Lennon and Mary J Blige covering U2. I mean, I'm all for listening to different genres of music but that doesn't mean I want those genres combined! Didn't Nelly and Tim McGraw do a duet. Come on, people. I'm all about a diversified music collection but don't force it on people. There is nothing wrong with owning a Madonna, John Lennon, Tim McGraw and Nelly CD...there is a place, time and mood for all of this music.

While I was waiting in the carpool line to pick up my kids from school a few minutes ago, I heard You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling by the Righteous Brothers and immediately thought of Tom Cruise. And then suddenly felt nauseous. Curse you, CTC, for ruining that song, and Take My Breath Away, and Old Time Rock and Roll, and Kokomo...wait, that one sucked to begin with. Anyway, the only thing that made me feel better was remembering this thread and that I could come here when I got home to share with all of you.

"You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" makes me think of Phil Spector and the fact that he's in jail for murder. Not that I care that much, because I knew Phil was crazy long ago so it's not like the song is ruined.

In that vein, ALL Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 music has been ruined for me. Big fucking WORD. And that pisses me off because I can't think back nostalgically on when I was six years old, singing along to Thriller.

This is not so much songs that have been ruined (yet), but stupid commercials that totally rip off beloved songs and get away with it because they change a few notes.
There's a Nivea ad right now which totally rips off Coldplay's "Clocks". And, a little while ago, there was a minivan ad ripping off "Let Down" by Radiohead. It really p-d me off.

Alex Lloyd's song Amazing used to really move me... until an Australian CAR commercial appropriated it! All I could think of was that they must have offered a truckload of money for that song. But I don't know why they bothered because lyrically, it didn't really fit.
And I totally support all criticism of Jessica Simpson whose rendition of Robbie Williams Angels had me writhing on the floor in agony.
