I've had a Christian Slater crush for quite a while, and in 9th grade I watched "Untamed Heart" and fell in love with a song from that movie--"Nature Boy" by Nat King Cole. And in my AIM profile back then I would often put the main line from that song: "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return." And of course I was the only person at my school who had heard this song, so I felt special for the exquisite find.
Then, the summer between 9th and 10th grade, "Moulin Rouge" came out and everyone heard that song. The following year all the little brats in drama club went around spouting "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return the greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return the greatest thing you'll ever learn is...". BLEGH! And it went in all of their AIM profiles. I had that line in mine first! That was my line before it was their line!
I still love that wonderful song, so it hasn't been ruined, but at the time I had a hard time listening to the song without getting upsetting conotations of all the kids I despised..

I once saw a live sex show in Amsterdam where the couple did it to Sting's "Desert Rose." That song has completely changed for me.

Ditto with the Coldplay songs being ruined. Ditto with Coldplay. The other day I was watching a video of Jeff Buttle skating to "Fix You", and despite it being a great program, it was hard to enjoy it because I knew the song is all about Gywnett Fishtick Paltrow and her whiney angst.

Indeed. I like the song, but hate knowing it's about that b-word. Just saw a cell phone commercial using "Pretty In Pink" by the P-Furs. Damn. (That's like that beer commercial using "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order.)

My soul nearly died when they used The Smiths' "How Soon Is Now" on a car commercial. Fortunately, I love the song enough that it wasn't ruined.
I hate that when I listen to the song "Love and Marriage," I see the opening credits for "Married With Children" in my head.

Ditto for hearing Carly Simon's wonderful "Anticipation" and having the first thing that pops into your head being..... ketchup.

When I hear it I think of Valerie Bertinelli and Co. performing it on "One Day at a Time."
