daisy pusher, I love that Romeo Void song. Is that really the lead singer in that video? She...doesn't look like what I pictured.
And yes, Reckless was a hot movie...more than a bit risque if I do recall.

Seriously. How can we be at page 8 without any mention of the quintessential Rock N Roll band of the 1980s, Huey Lewis & The News? MTV darlings, 30+ Million Albums, 20+ Top 10 hits.... any of this ringing a bell? Or is it just me? It seems to me that any mention of the 1980s is incomplete without including Huey. The problem, as I see it, is that they were so middle of the road rock that everyone liked, that they get overlooked. Like the weird cousin that's at every reunion, they're always around, never unpleasant, always a joy, but nothing that anyone would remember from one time to the next. Who doesn't love "Do You Believe In Love?" and "If This is it"? And who can forget the fun videos for "Doin' it all for my baby" (an homage to Frankenstein movies), and "Stuck With You" (with a young Keely Shaye Smith aka Mrs. Pierce Brosnan)? It's odd that their first number one hit wasn't off the mega-popular Sports album, but off the "Back to the Future" soundtrack. Yes, I'm talking about "Power of Love" - the ultimate 1980s synth-rock-pop tune. HLN has been my favorite band since the first album in 1980. They still rock!

I loved Huey Lewis and the News. I think I saw them in concert 4 times. They put on a great show every time. I never sort of intentionally "quit" Huey & Co., but I guess they got supplanted in my preferences during my jr. and sr. years of high school when I got into "alternative" music and that stayed with me into high school. I had a silly little dance I did to "Hip to Be Square". I was/am such a dork. One of my friends was incapable of saying "Huey" -- it always came out like "hooey"

I was on my way home from work last night, and Hip to be Square was on the radio. It was awesome.
My two favorite 80s dance jams though are Stacey Q's "Two of Hearts" and Shannon's "Let the music play"

Let us now have a moment of silence for the late Laura Branigan. I love the video for "Gloria" that looks like it costs $25 to make.

TC...my friend Hattie and I wrote love notes to Huey back when we were about 8 years old. I know. Neat. You think that's bad... let me recount a conversation I had with Huey: After the show, I got the chance to tell Huey how great it was to hear the older stuff and he was all "We killed on 'Change'." And then he proceeded to tell me about a treatment of "Don't Ever Tell Me That You Love Me" that he thought about doing - and proceeded to sing it to me. Wheeeeeeee! How cool is that?
That is the highlight of the evening. But there was a funnier moment - Huey was saying that he sometimes gets 30 page letters from fans - and here's the conversation that followed:
Me: I wrote a seven page fan letter to you when I was 13. Huey: I wonder if I read it. I probably did. Me: I doubt it. But I did get the Christmas tape you guys sent out that year. Huey: Then I definitely read it. Me: Now I'm embarassed. (no, really) Huey: Don't be - we've all done it.
