TrafficChick, I'm actually not a fan (never have been) of Huey, but after that story, I think I might have to change my mind!
The MTV talk reminded me that my dad got hired as a freelance photographer to take a picture of Martha Quinn introducing The Police during their Synchronicity tour stop in Orlando. I was so jealous, because I really wanted to go to the concert, but I didn't get to go. The Fixx opened up for them.
I saw Men Without Hats live in '89 or so at a festival the local university put on. They did a great show and the whole crowd got into it.

Oh my Gosh, Huey Lewis sounds like a total sweetheart. They sent out Christmas tapes to the fans who wrote them? We need an "awwwww, how sweet" icon!

It was a fan newsletter. I just found out last year that they only sent 500 of them out. And I was one of the lucky ones. I still have it. I've posted the two Christmas tunes over in the Christmas thread that came off it. Don't worry - they've been officially released by the band - so it's not an illegal download!

You know what I just thought of? "Pop Goes the World." Good song.

Huey Lewis' "I Want a New Drug"
Laura Branigan "Self Control" ;D
Another one of my fave 80s tunes: "Poison Arrow" by ABC.
ETA: Anyone else here watch Dance Party USA in the afternoons? Princess, Little Spicy, Rob, et. al.

Anybody for "Night Tracks" on USA on Friday Nights?
The Producers? Billy Karloff & the Extremes?
We (1964) did radio with Greg Kihn a few years ago...not very video friendly now, but a cool guy....

I have to say that I hated the hair bands in the 80's (and 90's). Hate. I never got into them at all.
I used to watch Dance Party USA, too. It was the poor man's American Bandstand!

I have to say that I hated the hair bands in the 80's (and 90's). Hate. I never got into them at all. Right there with you. The crush I had on Tom whatsisname died more than a little when I found out how psyched he was about the Bon Jovi concert. CAgirl, once my two best friends and I started to love Depeche Mode, we nicknamed each other: I, the ginger/strawberry-blonde, was Fletch, my blonde friend became MLG and my brunette friend was dubbed Dave. No one was nicknamed after Alan Wilder, in part because we all lusted after him. Huey Lewis always seemed like a good guy. I tried to catch every interview I could when during Sports, Back to the Future and when Fore! came out. I remember when he and the News did the national anthem before a baseball all-star game (I always loved their a capella) and then Huey appeared on David Letterman's show, except, of course, he'd already taped the show, and he made a joke about the game and the audience laughed because they knew he hadn't been there yet. More recently, I don't know if I could ever look him in the eye after the fishing scene in Short Cuts
