This is not good. Madonna was discovered unresponsive and received Narcan before going to the hospital. Narcan is used primarily for drug overdoses.

Prince and Tom Petty spring to mind as two celebrities who developed dependence on narcotics that were originally prescriped to treat pain and ended up OD-ing. Madonna has had hip issues. It is totally not out of the realm of possibility that she's in a similar situation.

Wasn't Madonna previously very anti drugs and alcohol? Admittedly I don't really follow her but I thought she was into insane amounts of exercise and extreme diets "my body is a temple" type thing. So if she did OD I can see it coming from prescription medication rather than recreational drugs. But who knows. I hope she makes a full recovery.

Honestly, I think it's hard for the public to have a real grasp on what Madonna has truly been dedicated to. Throughout her career, she has done such a brillant job of making her entire life performance art that it's hard to tell what is genuine and what is part of the album release. She changes her look, her beliefs, her lifestyle, to all represent and adapt to a style of music. It's been a pretty smart way to make herself very public while being able to remain quite private.

I think you're right that the public have very little idea who the "real" Madge is, probably very few people do. Maybe she doesn't even know herself after so many reinventions - which has to take a toll even if a lot of it was semi performance art.

That said, her self discipline and dedication to an extreme "healthy lifestyle" via hours at the gym per day and whatever expensive starvation diet was in fashion seems to have been a constant. As has at least the idea that she refused all drugs and alcohol that pretty much everyone else was using around her.

I'm not saying that she can't have been using recreational drugs either then or now. Page Six is reporting (with very liberal use of the word "allegedly") that "those who found her" immediately administer Narcan. If it was staff or a family member and they were carrying it around or had it in the house then it would point to them being worried that they would need to use it. Of course if they knew that she had prescribed painkiller addiction then it also makes sense that they would have it to hand. Or it could have been the EMTs who "allegedly" used it. Perhaps it is a standard part of wealthy/celebrity First Aid kits.

I know a little about it thanks to a friend who is in recovery for crack and heroin addiction but only 2nd hand.

Page Six is also quick to point out that there is no evidence that she had an OD but *if* they're correct then there must have been at least a suspicion of that rather than a bacterial infection, which should have been obvious for various reasons.

I believe them that she did have a bacterial infection/sepsis because that's what killed my mom and the sequence of events of her losing consciousness and then having to fight off the infection in the hospital, being intubated etc follows what happened to my mom. My dad says she probably could have fought it if she was younger and healthier. I have no problem believing that Madonna almost died.

If she has a painkiller addiction, that could be a whole other ball of wax that she's also dealing with too.

Narcan is everywhere now. I have a lot of friends who carry it around for their friends. Crazy times.

Yea, I don't necessarily think that someone having narcan means they knew she was using. I mean I carry it.. but I work with people who often times are dealing with substance use disorders. It's free, and you just never know. Almost everyone I know has a spray bottle- including my husband. And we don't know anyone actively using in our personal lives (that we know of obviously). But it can't hurt to have it... you could be in Target one day trying to figure out if you want the Noosa or the Fage yogurt and some 17 year old goes down...

That being said I do hope she's on the mend.

I'm gonna say that if they used it on her, they believed it was a possibility that she had overdosed. So even if it wasn't the case this time, odds are she is using. And in the world of celebrity, it's entirely possible that "bacterial infection is the new "Exhaustion".
