I saw this thread come up and got all excited. I thought Lynn might be coming out of retirement or something. I miss our daily snark fests. But cool for you to see George, Lixxie. Yes, I know. I miss this thread, and over at Foobiverse, it's pretty much dead too unless someone finds an interview or article about Lynn Johnston. Basically the same old, same old to snark on except for I guess the Delicate Genius is so smart that he was able to bypass kindergarten and go straight to first grade, and his future doormat is back again already.

Weird, I still read FOOB every day (eye rolling is good exercise) and the other day I thought, I should revive the Greecie foob thread to bitch about Lynn.
So are these actual strips from the olden days or has Lynn rewritten them? Because I don't see anything redeeming about them at all. Mike is a brat, John is a sexist thoughtless pig, and Elly is a passive-aggressive bitch. There was a strip about a week ago where everyone was eating dinner and the amount of spit and food being shot about was horrific. ((shudder)) No wonder Michael has no manners.

I'm willing to snark again daily if you all are. I miss that too.

It's a mish-mash of old and new strips. For example: this week, Monday, Saturday and Sunday (as in tomorrow) were old strips, and Tuesday-Friday were new-runs (or new-ruins, as they're frequently known over on the Foobiverse on LiveJournal).

The Coffee Talk section of the site is still up and running, so there would be possible snark material there.

The artwork in the "new" strips is slightly different - the backgrounds are more detailed. Cross-hatching is a dead giveaway that it is a new strip.
As a loyal Comics Curmudgeon, I still have the strip on my chron.com comics page. Some of the themes never changed. Elly always had a martyr complex and was obsessed with housework. Apparently, she also suffers from the same lack of short-term memory as that Drew Barrymore character from "50 First Dates", because she is able to goggle in open-mouthed amazement when she observes things such as "kids like to put things in their mouths" or "siblings sometimes do not get along and fight over petty things".

It would be hilarious if someone borrowed the " Garfield Minus Garfield" idea, and selectively edited "For Better or Worse." I just wonder what you'd subtract. The kids? John? Would you replace every single character besides Elly with Garfield?

So in today's strip, it's the second time someone has asked about Elly going back to work "now that Michael's in school". What about Lizzie? If you're a stay-at-home mom who wants to return to work when the kids are in school, wouldn't you wait until the youngest is in school full time? It just seems odd that it would be mentioned twice in that way. And of course, today John says something 1970s-ish like, "She can be liberated as long as she does it at home."

Candace's biography is up at the FOOB website and... surprise, surprise... her growing-up years were miserable and abusive. I never read any of these biographies all the way through (thank God for the summaries at the FOOBiverse!), but I get tired of how all the ones for non-Patterson related characters have the them growing up in shitty childhoods with crappy parents.

Everyone who's not a Patterson is either a horrible person or has suffered a horrible life. That's the law. Unfortunately for LJ, all that did was make the Pattersons look heinously dull in comparison.
