Although she was trying to make them look saintly in comparison, I would guess.
I guess this thread has made me read the strip through foob-coloured glasses, because almost every strip makes me roll my eyes and think, "That was supposed to be funny or heart-warming?" Did I actually like this strip at one time?

My local newspaper is still running ancient FOOB strips. I can't believe I ever thought they were funny.

I saw the topic come up and I wondered if Lynn Johnston had died. My first thought!!! The TV Tropes entry on FOOB is hilarious (especially the YMMV page). |

Both of mine - Minneapolis and St. Paul - are running them, too. One of the papers tried to stop them after the new strips ended, and there was enough of an outcry (who are these people?) that they backed down.
This thread is what brought me to the Greecie board when the old place shut down. Ah, memories.

I'd like to see someone do a FOOB version of Garfield without Garfield. Just strips of Elly ranting to no one.
