I think it was Liam who called Inxs has-beens at some award show and that was said around the time of his downward spiral and I guess he obsessed about it--I mean, it really hurt him in a personal way. NewStandardETA: Here is a quote from Noel about Hutchence: Sounds like there was some baiting on both sides even though everything I read about Hutchence was that he really liked Oasis.

I'm sorry, Oasis will always be cooler than Coldplay. Chris Martin IS a wanker student and his music sucks.
The Gallaghers (Noel esp) strike me as both complete assholes and basically nice people with a lot of substance to them. Like, they have both sides to them. Does anyone else know what I mean?
There's no doubt in my mind that Noel G has a lot more substance and intelligence than Chris Martin, and he's probably a much nicer, more genuine person too. Noel isn't some bedwetting, spoiled student, for one.

If anyone watched the webcast, Noel was talking about how Chris climbed up to the balcony at one of Coldplay's most recent shows just to give him a hug.

When I was about 19 I loved Definetely Maybe beyond all reason- I was the only college student lving in a house full of lunatics in California and Cigarettes and Alcohol was our theme song for about a year of drinking, carousing and chasing hot boys. Good times, good times.
They definetely went downhill after the second album and the collection of singles and B-sides is probably my third favourite "album": Whatever, Underneath The Sky and Half the World Away are some of my favourite Oasis songs. Supersonic is my absolute favourite though.

I am another American who loves Oasis. Yeah they are obnoxious , rude, pretentious and kinda gross, but they don't bore me. And thats far more than I can say for The Beatles, U2 and Coldplay who all put me to sleep within minutes. Although that probably belongs in the Unpopular Music Opinions thread. ;D

Had a nice concert last night while cleaning my room. They are very generous to have so many songs on the web to listen to. I like their sound and have to give them all a more careful listen. So far I like the first one I heard best, "Hey now".
Nice to hear that he hugged Chris, or vice versa.
Just like everyone else, I was sick when I heard about Michael Hutchence. When I was trying to fall asleep that night the DJ played one of his beautiful songs "I have to let you know" and said, "I have to play this, for Michael." So sad.

I think a alot of their comments are simply rock star posturing. You always hear about Oasis feuds but so many of their targets end up admitting that they go for drinks with Liam or really admire Noel or something.
I totally agree. It seemed like they understood what went wrong with Be Here Now and were going to "get back to basics" with their next albums but, aside from a few tracks on each of their post-Morning Glory albums, they just haven't recaptured their songwriting magic. (Definitely) Maybe one day they will release another great album.

I can't help it...I'll always love Liam Gallagher for this ( Fiona3 also included the quote on the previous page). I always assumed the Oasis/Coldplay rivalry came down to the British class system with Oasis as the hardscrabble, lower class, first generation Brits versus Coldplay, the college educated, middle class guys. Am I right or am I wrong British CPMCoG fans?

I think that the original Oasis vs. Blur feud was about the class system in the UK. Blur were the middle class, educated band and Oasis (as always) were the working class lads made good.
I think the Oasis/Coldplay feud is just a rehashing of that rivalry (which got a ton of press and helped to sell a lot of albums).
