I don't understand the rationale of keeping her marriages secret. Everyone knew she and Rene were together, she talked about very intimate things in interviews. To me, the purpose of marriage is to announce to the world, your friends, family, etc. that you're in love and want to be with that person through thick and thin for the rest of your lives. If you wanted to make that same commitment to your partner very privately, then fine, but why not just have a private ceremony that you make up on your own, with no legal ramifications? Why bother going through the legal process of getting married for no other reason than to keep it secret? These aren't people who have to worry about health insurance or any of the practical reasons people get married for. I don't understand getting married and then not being able to call your husband your husband, just because you're denying the very act. Why not just not do it instead?

Personally, I think she was just worried about her career, because it was in the 80s, and popstars weren't having babies. Even Madonna had a few abortions to keep herself a prime candidate for pop career.

If there was a smart tabloid reporter, they would dig up that "Right On" article in the eighties, which showed a very pregnant looking Janet hugged up with James and attached it Young DeBarge's statement.

I hope the girl knows who her mother is.

According to Young Debarge, Janet flies Renee up to New York for visits, but there was no mention on whether Renee knew Janet was her mother. However, the interviewer left the impression that Renee knew. The only reason why the child would keep that a secret in my opinion would be for financial reason. I'm sure the poor thing doesn't want to be disinherited. Plus, she probably loves Janet, and she doesn't want to hurt her.

But John's marriage secret lasted for only a few months. By the time he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show it was well-known, and even mentioned on the show. The British press had already revealed it long before then.

The whole Renee thing reminds me of what Chris Rock said about figuring out what kids will be going to jail:

"If the kid calls his Grandma 'Mommy' and his Momma 'Pam', he going to jail!"

Which is sad. There's a part of me that would like to think that this next generation of Jacksons (incl. CEMJ's kids) will be more self-aware and more aware of the disgusting, disturbing, irritating and flat-out-wrong and decide to be the vehicle to change the reputation of the family.

There's that part of me, and then there's the part of me that knows it's not going to happen.

The risk of kidnap? Sounds exactly like the "explanation" given by someone we know...a certain plastic pop-prince called Michael who has his kids come out with plastic bags over their heads and dangles babies over balconeys....

Well I don't see Prince Charles hiding Princes William and Harry in The Tower along with the crown jewels. Madonna has claimed her own kids and lives with them.
