Just when I thought I couldn't think less of Janet my estimation of her sinks so much further.

I listened to the audio link. When he was asked how the daughter felt about Janet not acknowledging her he hesitated and mumbled something but essentially I got that he was trying his best not to say out loud that she was angry and pissed out it. I think he just said "..at this point she is dispondent".

I'm happy to hear that DeBarge's mother - the kid's grandmother - gets on the phone every now and then demanding to see her granddaughter. It's fucked up that Janet's "people" only allow Granny to have a couple snatched visits with her in a hotel room. It sounds like this child has been completely isolated from not just her mother but her father and his family. Disgusting!

I'm going to go against the grain here (and probably get blasted, but whatever) and say that at least she gave her to someone more responsible to raise. Yes, she wanted a career. Yes, during that time, it probably would have hurt her career to have a child. So, she had it and gave it to someone else to raise. Big, frickin', deal!

If she would have had an abortion, then now everyone would be on here calling her an "evol babee killuh." It was her (and most likely) her family's decision on how to handle a very dicey situation at the time. Some people view it as a mistake, some don't. It's done now.

And, am I the only one who doesn't think that the times seem to add up? She married and divorced DeBarge-guy in 1985, right? Wouldn't that make the daughter about 20 years old, instead of 18?

If she would have had an abortion

Katherine has always been very religious and as a Jehovah's Witness Janet would not have been allowed to have an abortion. Add into the equation intimidation from Papa Joe.....honey? trust me! - back then when she fell pregnant with this girl abortion was not an option for this woman.

Add to that she had married the baby daddy of this unexpected pregnancy against her parent's will and relations with both families were very strained.

And Janet was what? 20..21? Old enough but depending on your experience and upbringing still very impressionable..and living in the Jackson mansion surrounded by the Cult all her life till then I don't think in real life matters Janet was that confident or knowledgable.

There was really noone to tell this girl back in 1986/7 what her choices really were and about not freeling pressured and shamed or guilty. She just did what her parents said at the time which was have the baby and give it to Rebee.

But Janet is a free, emancipated and grown up woman who knows her own mind now. She is 39 years old, has her own money and resources, lives independently and has been independent and free and knowledgable enough to make her own choices for many years now. That she has never bothered to claim her daughter is clearly because she just can't be bothered to. And that is a fucking BIG SHAME ON HER! No other explanation or way to paint it.

The father was addicted to drugs when she was conceived/born. They probably just blackmailed him with that... no need to even pay him off. Plus if the father's mother still demands and twists Janet's arm to get visits with the child I don't think a pay-off offer was ever accepted by the DeBarges. They seem like people who just want their daughter. But Janet has "people" to make sure they never get custody.
