Why South Africa? I don't know why, but it seems like a strange place to go for psychiatric help, especially if you're a black American.

Maybe he was hoping that by going to South Africa he could keep it out of the press.

Sounds like he is going through an Inside Daisy Clover moment. (An old Natalie Wood film where it sounds like he is going through the same stuff she did in the movie.) I hope he recovers and can pick up where he left off. Hopefully this won't kill his career.

I think the DVD sales for the Second Season might be seen as an indicator if he can come back or not. Or better yet, the third season when it starts. Hopefully this didn't sour Comedy Central on him, resulting in the third season being the last--as most fans of Strangers with Candy and Upright Citizens Brigade can attest to--and him handing back most of that money.

Needless to say, if he continues on to South Park success, his windfall will be reduced.

I was thinking the same thing. It does seem random. And Dave seems so laid back yet self-confident that he's the last person I would have expected to crack under pressure.
