Because it's obviously wearing on his soul. As mentioned in that article: Unfortunately, I think Dave has closed the barn horse after the horse escaped. I've heard/read so many people say that they love Chappelle's Show because "it makes it okay for white people to say n*gger". I think Dave is beginning to see that not everyone is laughing WITH him, but AT him, and that can't be easy. He's created a monster much bigger than the Rick James thing. I'm a black woman who has worked with plenty of whites (mainly male) since CS has started and I can't count the number of times I've had to leave a room in disgust because they're telling me to "lighten up" because they keep quoting CS, but it's the "n*gger" jokes they keep repeating over and over. It just gets annoying as hell. "Hey, Dave says n*gger so we can say n*gger! It's FUNNY!" I was watching something on Court TV last night, and a judge told these girls who were convicted of armed robbery: "You have sown the winds. Now you must reap the whirlwinds." And that's happening to Dave right now. I can't feel bad for the guy...I just can't. Nice to know he's doing okay, but I was kinda hoping the Drop Squad had finally found his ass and was forcing him to sit in a room watching Bamboozled over and over again.

It just gets annoying as hell. "Hey, Dave says n*gger so we can say n*gger! It's FUNNY!" As I mentioned upthread, shouldn't there be an equal amount of Jew jokes, as Brennan is Jewish? You would never, ever, EVER hear anyone on CS call someone a "k*ke" over and over and over. Never! But we get it in nearly every fucking episode of CS. I can't even think of a skit that just really reamed white people...that didn't ream black people, too. I'm not saying Dave shouldn't ream black people - I'm saying that 1) it's getting old and 2) it reeks of cooning. I feel you. I am a black woman also, and I saw him in concert 2 months ago with my boyfriend who is a die hard DC fan. I posted upthread about how weird he was on stage, but the real surprise to me was how many white people were in the audience, (I could count the black folks on one hand), and how uncomfortable I felt as they were screaming his own jokes and skits at him. I felt too, that they were laughing at him. Not only at him but at black folks in general, but it was ok because he is Dave Chappelle and he said it first. Maybe I'm taking it the wrong way, but I felt like people were looking at me and my boyfriend and believing some of the stuff Dave says about n*ggers. Maybe going on tour really brought home the reaction from his audience. Top DVD sales does not really tell you how people think and feel. Perhaps during his tour he realized that his audience wasn't really "getting it", or "getting it" too much and it became too much for him. One way or another I hope he comes back. If he does come back do you think Comedy Central will want to work with him again?

Comedy Central will definitely give him at least one more season, but if he changes his schtick so much that he loses his core audience (young white males are driving those ratings and dvd sales just like they do rap cd sales) the question is will he be on for more than one season.

He's got my respect. In fact, I think he's got a lot more respect for everybody who really genuinely appreciates his humor for what it is, not for some bigots to finally air their bullshit.
The most interesting thing about this so far is that Adult Swim dedicated a set of their bumps to his well-being. No humor, no irreverentness, just them wishing he gets well. I think Chappelle may have tapped into the current vein of bigot awakening, but he's also affected us who understand where he's coming from and hope to learn something from it in the way he intends. Yeah, he didn't get everybody to see it, but he got a lot more than I think he knows.

Nice to know he's doing okay, but I was kinda hoping the Drop Squad had finally found his ass and was forcing him to sit in a room watching Bamboozled over and over again. Bwah! You tell it, baby! Bamboozled is definately the film I think about when I see some of Chappelle's skits. I get them the way they were intended - satirical, sarcastic, ironic. But your average moron just loves it because what they are seeing is a "coon show". Then they go to work and act like minstrels becuase they saw a black guy on TV doing it. I want to watch Dave's comedy but as was mentioned earlier do we get skits dedicated to calling Jews Kikes over and over? Would we get a Jewish pixie making people act out negative and racist Jewish stereotypes because it's so funny y'all!! Or Italians? Or Irish? Or Polish? Or Swedish? Or German? No! As for Dave trying to cop out or being so ashamed that he tells the obvious lie about seeing a psychiatrist (I guess he was a phychiastrist, I only saw him for 40 mins) that's just a pity. People see therapists and psychiatrists all the time and admiting you do doesn't make you "mad". I think he should have just said "Yeah, I'm in therapy" and not make such a big deal out of it by evading the question and making it seem more serious than it is. Dude is just suffering from stress. It's very common. Many people from all walks of life get in extreme or prolonged stress situations and go down with it when it gets too much and alot need help to put it all back in perspective and recover. Now we got rumors going round he's some rampant drug addicted psychotic. We don't need them made worse by him not being willing to admit he's just suffering from a stress related disorder and that's about it. I am deeply saddened that modern day Amerika just was not ready for this comedy and that the chickens have come home to roost for Dave simply because it turned out that yes! people ready ARE that ignorant! and unfortunately it seems still racist and stuck in bigotry.

That first article you linked to was from 1984. I didn't even bother with the next. What I was saying is that Chapelle Show for some ignorant idiots - who like all idiots are completely unaware that they are idiots - inspires some really idiotic and offensive commentary and perspectives on black men and women. It reinforces the viewing idiot's stupid racism and that idiot uses what they can from what they think they are seeing to reinforce and justify their idiotic bigotry.
And by all the reports of morons shouting like dumb retards at Chappelles standup shows causing him to walk off I think it's safe to say that to his shock and disgust he may have realise a lot of his fanbase turned out to be of the idoit variety.
He has astute fans who get it. Sure. But he also has braindead fratboys who yell at him while he's on stage and are too drunk and stupid to even bother to hear the act. And he probably thought it was those stupids who bought his DVDs and go out and make plain racist, bigoted "jokes" about the black man at work or the students they are rooming with and can happily say they are not racist because they have stolen a permission slip to start quoting (read as misquoting!) Chappelle.
How did we get from that to "Chappelle Show inspires hate crimes and racist murders"?

Actually, the incident in OS's first link happened in July 2003. The guy had worked at the plant since 1984.
Also,
I know morons, I have lived with morons, I have a shitload of morons in my family... I am pretty sure everyone knows that Bamboozled was satire. If they have ever even heard of it. Which I'm willing to bet most below-average Americans have not.
From what I can see, the discussion started when some people said that average white Americans may see Chappelle's Show and think it's now ok to repeat epithets against black people.

You heard it. I don't see how OS's links are at all relevant to this conversation.
Murder and hate crimes? Where the hell was that coming from?
It doesn't even bare any link to the general discussion.
I still don't get it.
