I think he is a complete sleaze and gross. I think she is a super smart young lady. I think if it were ME at 17 I would have jumped his bones. Totally agreed, except with whoever That Guy was at 17. To keep it specific, I wouldn't touch James Franco with a pole and I barely read his thread, but...yeah. And then I would have been all sad and devastated when I realized it was just a booty call.

At this point Franco and Gwyneth are in the same category, amusement only, nothing they do or say surprises me, nothing they do or say shocks me.
They are the opposite on the WHY. I think with Franco his whole life is a joke, performance art. And even of it's not, he'll act like it is. He is the embodiment of The Joaquin Phoenix meme. I wouldn't put anything past him, but it's all pretty harmless.
With Gwyneth, she's dead serious, this is all REAL bitches, this is her LIFE! Every move she makes, every poop she takes, is life threatening and life giving, sometimes simultaneously!
They are both cartoons of real life. Over indulged, over praised, over protected, rich pampered brats who imagine the whole world cares...and to a degree they are correct! A goodly portion of the world does care! But I am at the, "Oh Gwyneth, of course you work harder than the single mom with four kids because she does her morning thing and then goes home to the kiddies and you have to fly to Minnesota."
And I am, "Oh James, of course you are misunderstood because 17 yo Scottish girls on vacation with their mums just can't be trusted to not tell their friends that you hit on them by Instagram. Social media is so hard, you can't trust anyone these days."

I'll vote for a hoax. I guess most of the "evidence" has been deleted, but Gawker makes good points, and the timing of this thing is just way too convenient, IMO. Kelly Ripa said to him, "it happens to everyone". What happens? Trying to hook up with a much younger person or having your private messages published? Hasn't happened to me yet. Anyway, it's a hoax.

But why would he do that? A lot of people are disgusted and shit-talking him now. That's bad PR.

So is acting like hosting the Oscars was beneath him and a total bore. It's what he does.

I guess I don't get why it would be hoax. What good could come of that? Now some people see him as a pervy on top of being a pretentious idiot. Also, the Oscars could and should have been good PR, but it wasn't. Making that music video mocking the Kardashians is good PR, as is a lot of the silliness he does on Instagram. But a lot of this stuff probably hurts his career and public image.

I think the hoax bit is that nothing like this has ever registered on our radar about him before, and he just happens to have a cheap assed self produced movie coming out in a nano second where the part he plays is a creepy older guy who hits on his 14 year old student.
Maybe the only misfire is he thought the Scottish girl was younger.

Willie Nelson once hit on me and I turned him down. Does that count? He was one half of "To All The Girls I've Loved Before". You made the right call. OT: This is why I scratched my head about people being surprised that Enrique's kid does douchey man-ho music. Topic: Jesus, this dude. If I were a celebrity, I'd leave my social media activities to a handler who is paid to follow me around, is perpetually sober, and signed an NDA that basically says I own his/her ass if there's ever any sleazy goings-on associated with my accounts. Social media frightens me, and I'm not even a public figure.

Acting like a douche and calling it performance art is the new black, I guess. Frankly, he creeps the creep out of me.

Even if this is a hoax (why though??), the media's and many people's response is off-putting. Imagine this was, say, Jessica Chastain hitting on a teenage boy. Yep. Her career would be over in seconds and she'd never recover from it. It's a long way from Woody Allen to James Franco ( hopefully!) but these Hollywood men know they can get away with pretty much everything. I'm probably not making sense right now but it pisses me off that men like them can do whatever they want and see nothing wrong with it because the public (and often their peers) defend their behaviour. It's apparently always easier to blame the other, female, party involved than really questioning the actions of guys like Franco or Woody. Again, what James did is not even close to Woody's crimes, it's just the response that strikes me as similar.
