When is the wedding episode? I don't know but the most recent episode was entertaining but I also liked their take on how Jay was viewing the "big gay wedding." I do agree that their wedding should be smaller (only because I prefer smaller weddings) but I will be interesting how they eventually all resolve this.

The wedding episode will undoubtedly be the season finale. And I predict a dozen crises, with Cam fluttering around in tears and Lily throwing a tantrum. Yeah, I'm psychic that way.

Boy, the contrivance fairy was working overtime in this ep. I hate the "everything has to go wrong before the wedding" trope that all sitcoms feel is required, but this was ridiculous.
The worst was Cam's tux. There is no way a persnickety princess like Cam wouldn't have his tux cleaned and hanging ready days (weeks? months?) before his Big Day.
The second was moving the time up four hours at such short notice. That wouldn't even work with the caterer, much less the hair, makeup, blahblahblah logistics that go into organizing a wedding.
Phil scheduling an eye appointment the day of was just stupid, nobody does that, not even a doofus like Phil. Claire picking up Luke from camp made sense, but going out on the lake was just more stupid contrivance. I know they like to write Claire as a regular gal/tomboy type (who will never measure up to Gloria's alleged physical perfection), but she has gotten dolled up many times, and I would think she would want to go home to get dressed up for her only brother's wedding instead of riding a boat on some random lake.
I can accept the ride to the airport part, and the picking up the bowl part, because they both had plausible explanations.
And Shelley Long having other commitments? Please. An aging, has-been sitcom actress can't fit a guest role in a top-rated sitcom? Unless it's for health reasons, that is ridiculous. This plot line has been planned all season, so surely the producers gave all the necessary guest actors plenty of notice.
It seemed like the writers wanted to give each character a plot line to ruin the wedding, which is just lazy writing when they don't make sense.

I can see your point, but I don't know this show's ever gone for 'reality' per se. I laughed, even though much was contrived. I got to watch part 2 last week, and I have to say I cried. When the moment comes, it's beautifully done.

I cried too. Jay walking Mitch down the aisle really got me. And the two actors did a lovely job of showing the emotion of having a real wedding. Yeah, there was some stupid, unfunny shit, but they really pulled it out in the end.

I think it was the combination of Jay offering his golf club to host the wedding, then walking Mitchell down the aisle, along with Claire talking about her love for her brother, and her happiness that he found Cam, coupled with Phil talking about the magic of marriage while holding his wife's hand. The writers took the marriage seriously, and I felt it was a lovely testament to the integrity of the characters. When Cam and Mitchell said I DO, I smiled and clapped through tears.

I cried. I thought it was lovely. Me too. When Mitchell laid his head on Jay's arm as they came down the aisle, the tears started rolling.

Ok, I think I got y'all beat. I haven't finished watching this episode but I saw the first part. All I've seen is the wedding get interupted by the wildfire... and yet I still burst into tears just from Cam and Mitchell linking arms before they (almost) walked down the aisle. When I finally get to watch the whole thing, I'll probably wind up flooding the house! (Card carrying member of Pathetic Wedding Cryers Anonymous, yup)
