Cubs are in the World Series, good luck to them. My long-suffering 15-year-old 1969 self is so happy right now! Hey Hey!

Since the Red Sox got swept by Cleveland, I'm hoping the Cubs can kick their asses. Plus Stephen Colbert is a Cubs fan and I would love to see how much he freaks out if they win. Go Cubs!

Cubs are in the World Series, good luck to them. I have a fucking hard time breathing when I see it in writing. I can't believe it. I'm in shock. I've been a Cubs fan since I was 6 years old. I can't believe this. Tears were flowing earlier tonight, I'm not going to lie.

I am not much of a sports fan.
That said, I came of age in NE Ohio in the 1970s. I played little league. I was an Indians fan (except for a period when I discovered my contrary nature, and arbitrarily became an Astros fan, just to bug the people around me).
So I know from long suffering fandom.
At this juncture, I really don't care one way or the other.
But part of me hopes the Cubs lose. Not because I want the Indians to win, but because I admire the effort it takes to be a Cubs fan. If you are a Cubs fan, it's because you love the game, and that team, no matter what happens. It is REAL.
When the Cleveland organization in the 90s built a new park, and spent some money on players and hired Mike Hargrove, the team was a juggernaut. And there was a commensurate increase in ticket sales, which perpetuated the machine.
But they weren't the Cleveland Indians. they were a product of Money Ball culture. The team I liked was the team of Buddy Bell and Gaylord Perry pitching in his late 40s (!), and dollar beer night being the same game as Bat Day (they handed out 18" replica baseball bats to the crowd, and sold cheap beer-brilliant!). Like Randy Quaid's character in Major League, we almost loved them BECAUSE they sucked, not in spite of it.
I worry that this will happen to Cubs fans as well. They love their team, no matter how bad the stats say they are. And that love is REAL. If they win this year, will the fans be let down when they don't win again next year? Will they start running through players and staff like water, trying to regain status? It's a slippery slope, people, and Cleveland really hasn't done very well on that slope.
Our minor league hockey team won. The Cavs won so bigly that Trump stole a picture of their parade and told his minions it was a rally for him. If the Indians win, the city will be insufferable, such that even the perennial suckage of the Browns won't help to humble Clevelanders.
Try and see this, before it's too late, Chicago!
TL;DR: I am conflicted that the two losingest teams in baseball, are playing the World Series, in a year when the two least popular candidates ever are running for POTUS. Weird Times, Y'all.

I'm a White Sox fan, and I lived in Cleveland back in 1993 (last season in the old stadium!), so I'm rooting for the Indians (a divisional rival). One of my relatives, who is a Cubs fan, posted on Facebook about how millions of lives were changed last night; I can't deal with that kind of hyperbole. Of course it's exciting when your team gets to the World Series, even moreso when it hasn't happened in decades, but let's not get carried away with the histrionics. Oh, and there's no such thing as a curse.

Other than die hard Indian fans, is anyone out there actively rooting against the Cubs!? I'm not meaning to be facetious, I'm honestly curious. What have the Cubs really done that make you want them to loose?

It appears I was unclear in last post. I am not actively hoping the Cubs lose. In fact, all things being equal, it will be great if they win. I don't see myself as an Indians fan, except casually, since they're the hometown team. Good for the local economy and all.... It's the FANS that bug me. Cleveland fans have been so used to losing (in every sport) for so long, they seem to be unable to be gracious winners. Chicago has had da bulls and da bears [/ old SNL skit], so they should be better at being gracious winners. I have no experience at being a Cubs fan. Steve Goodman had a wonderful song about a dying Cubs fan's final wishes: youtu.be/qKHqC8DDroEThat is the kind of unconditional love for the team that I admire, and that I will feel sad for Cubs fans if they lose it, as the Cleveland fans of my youth appeared to do, between winning the pennant and losing the series in the 90s.

I'm a Jays fan, I don't like Cleveland's team name and I really dislike their mascot. I can't believe it's 2016 and they still use Chief Wahoo. That being said they didn't just beat two really strong teams to get to the World Series, they dominated them. With a ton of injuries to their pitching staff no less. If they win they will definitely deserve it and I can't be mad at that. I also just prefer AL style baseball. And the Cubs owners did donate a million dollars to Trump. I'm not rooting against the Cubs or for Cleveland, I just don't care who wins.
