Yeah, Chief Wahoo has to go. It's no better than the Washington football team. There is some bullshit story about it being a tribute to someone in the organization in the early days, but it has been lost over the decades, and is therefore not much of a tribute.
Maybe after they win, they'll do a big rebranding and set an example for teams everywhere.

I'm full-on rooting for the Indians.
1) I'm a White Sox fan, so it's in my nature to root for my team to win & the Cubs to lose. It's hard to stop that instinct, even when my team's not playing. 2) The Indians are in the same division as the White Sox, so when a team from our division makes the Series, I root for them (see the posts from last fall - I was full-on rooting for the Royals). 3) I lived in Cleveland for 7 months back in 1993 while doing an internship and have retained my affection for the city and the baseball team. Cleveland hasn't won the Series since 1948, so it's not like their perennial winners. 4) While I have no issue with true Cubs fans, like smitten & many of my friends, I can't stand all of the bandwagon jumping, like the girl who sits near me at work who went out and bought $100 worth of Cubs gear last week. If you don't have anything Cubs before the postseason, buy a hat and call it good. Don't pretend you're actually a fan of the team. 5) The only member of the Ricketts family who is worth a darn is the sister.
The only reason I can see to root for the Cubs as a non-fan of the team is Joe Maddon, who is several shades of awesome. Love him.

I can't remember where I read it but someone said that Washington and Cleveland should swap mascots. So you just have one really racist team in professional sports instead of two problematic ones.

Chiquita, as a Cubs fan who didn't root for the Sox in 05, I respect your choice! I loathe bandwagoners, so no way would I become one to root for a team just because they are also from my city. I don't agree with the "I'm a Chicago fan" mentality. Pick one!

Chicagoans I am curious, how do you decide whether to be a Cubs or a White Sox fan? I can't imagine having two baseball teams in the same city. Is it a National vs American League preference?

It's heavily driven by location (or location of older relatives), with the Sox for the south side and Cubs for the north side. My grandfather was a massive baseball fan and became a Sox fan when he lived on the South side back in the 1930s, and my dad (while a fan of all baseball) also prefers the Sox to the Cubs. But it's not just location. Some people became Cubs fans because they were on broadcast TV back in the '80s, and all of their games were during the day (lights installed at Wrigley in 1988), while the Sox games were mostly on cable. You'd get home from school, and the Cubs game would be on, so why not watch - and they had some good teams/players at the time, too. I rooted for the Cubs as much as the Sox back in the mid-'80s just because I could watch the games. And I would guess about 90% of transplants to the city choose to root for the Cubs, in large part due to the "lovable losers" aspect and because Wrigley Field is smack in the middle of a neighborhood where a lot of people move just out of college.

THIS is a hella good game.
My inner little leaguer wants Cleveland to win, but my Democratic side wants the NL to win, so the Dems take the WH.
Conflicted....

Indians and Cubs fans must be clutching their chests every other minute. A hella good game is right!
My sister and her family, plus one of my best friends are all die-hard Cubs fans, so for their sake I hope the Cubs win. Plus, I'm sure Drumpf is rooting for Cleveland... so just to see Hillary gloat and Donald pout, I hope the Cubs keep their lead.

Congrats to the Cubs and Cubs fans everywhere!
And to paraphrase my brother on Facebook: please don't burn Chicago to the ground, I'd like to visit some day.
