The Titanic was built, had its maiden voyage and then sank and was rediscovered after the Cubs won their last Workd Series. Before last night, we only knew the Cubs had won a Workd Series because old newspapers and history books told us so. There was no one alive who had been a witness to that victory. That's what gets me. Baseball is all about traditions. Older generations taking the newest generation to their first ball game and recounting their favorite baseball memories. And for a good decade, possibly even longer, there was no one who could turn to their grandchild or great-grandchild and say "I remember when the Cubs won the World Series. What a game that was." All that changed yesterday.

I just find it mind-boggling that the three longest World Series droughts in history (Cubs, White Sox, and Red Sox) have all ended in my lifetime. And Theo Epstein was at the helm for two of them. Damn.

I feel like there must be a better place to put this, but I did a search and didn't see it posted anywhere, so I'm putting it here for posterity. This is literally the only thing that has ever made me interested in professional baseball. I saw this going around on social media sites a few days ago, and everyone was saying the backstory was that one of the player's mothers had died during the game and the other player was consoling him. I thought that was sweet. I don't follow baseball, so I was surprised to read this morning that both player's mothers are perfectly fine and, as far as anyone could tell, they just decided to start cuddling during the game. I think no matter how progressive you consider yourself, it is surprising to see two male professional athletes "cuddling" this aggressively, in public, in the middle of a game. I just want to read everything about it for the rest of my life, but apparently neither one has said anything about it publicly. If they turned out to be romantically involved, that would be awesome. It would be equally as awesome if they just said, "Look, sometimes you need a good cuddle. We just like to cuddle every once in a while."

Waaahh, the Houston Astros have received the biggest punishment in pro baseball history for their diabolical cheating during the 2017 World Series. They used technology in the stadium to steal pitching signs and convey them to their batters using a big "bang-bang" noise that could be heard through the games. Suspensions, 5 million dollar fine, having to give up 2020 and 2021 first round draft picks.

Larry Walker, formerly of the Colorado Rockies, was voted into the Hall of Fame.
For the record, he is a lying scumbag who welches on his bar bets.
