I had no idea who it could be, but now they've released stills that make it likely that it's a new character who's a warrior of some sort. After I saw the stills of him fighting, I realized that the Roman side has been missing a physical badass who can face Spartacus/Crixus/Oenomaus. I think that could be the role of the new character; even if Gannicus is indeed hired by Lucretia, sending him to fight his brothers outside the arena would be risky. Ah! Perhaps the other Spartacus general, Castus? I think I remember reading somewhere that he isn't making an appearance this season, so maybe not. Regarding Gannicus, I believe he gets a love interest with the arrival of the German warrior in episode 7. So if he does align himself with Ashur and Lucretia, I don't think it will last long.Although I have been wrong predicting events on this show, so who knows.

Maybe Gannicus will be with the Romans in 7 and 8, and join the rebels and meet his love interest in 9. Many of the cast interviews mentioned episodes 4 and 5 and I ended up loving both. They've also mentioned episode 9 and the finale, and while the show's finales have been great I'm really curious to know what it is that made 9 special to them.

You have to wait until March 23 to find out. I'm surprised, for a show with such a huge cast and crew, that spoilers don't leak out. Not that I want to be spoiled...but like you, I'm also curious. Re: Castus. For some reason I assumed he'd be one of Glaber's men before defecting. If he's ever introduced, I'm sure it will be in some awesome way.

I have a feeling that Ashur will survive the season (the episode ends with him getting the bracelet he can use to backstab Glaber) and that makes me rage. Part of that scene had been in the trailers and it made me dread an Ashur/Lucretia romance; I didn't want to see him with any woman after how he used Naevia. But this was so much worse than what I expected. I hate seeing both Lucretia and Ilithyia so powerless.
Glaber has been brutal before, but I think Ilithyia's divorce/abortion plans and the disrespect of the other Romans in episode 5 broke whatever had been holding him back and previously made him honour at least some codes and laws. Now it's all or nothing.
Gannicus and new Spartacus aren't among my favourites, but that was a great fight. And while it's become pretty common in historical films I still can't get enough of women archers, so I approve of Mira's choice of weapon. The Egyptian did indeed look pretty badass in action - now I'm even more convinced that he'll have a fight with a major gladiator.

I see The Egyptian killing Agron before either Sparty or Crixus can take care of him. The gay characters on this show (Barca, Pietros, Auctus, Gaia) always end up dying!

Gannicus and new Spartacus aren't among my favourites, but that was a great fight. I liked the slo-mo effect on the sword flipping that Spartacus did with his wrist. Minus the big four, you can always tell which gladiator is going to get killed by how many lines they've been getting in recent episodes: the two gladiators at the mines that Ashur killed, Rhaskos in episode 5 and now I think it'll be the blonde dude who rebuked poor Chadara in the forest (can't remember his name). As for Ashur, his comeuppance should come at the hands of Crixus; if not, the crafty bastard will probably live to see 100.

Aw, I don't want Agron to die! At the beginning I thought he was a snotty jerk, but now that they've fleshed out his character I'm finding him more and more interesting, and I love his smart (and smartass) takes on the various situations the rebels find themselves in.

Agron is getting so many great lines. This season I can count on him for both snark and sweetness, so he's definitely become more than a background gladiator. There was an interview about the season's gay storyline that said they want to develop it further in season 3, and since Agron/Nasir turned out to be that storyline I think they're both safe for now. Donar, the blond gladiator, seems a more likely casualty, but I also fear for Oenomaus since he doesn't seem to have much to live for right now.

I miss the sex! The core cast has barely gotten any action this season. There's also been no nudity from the core male cast. Spartacus' one sex scene was tame. Gannicus and the Friendly Whore from last week was the best we've gotten so far.

Mr. S. is pretty sure that Viva Blanca is contractually bound to flash the boobies at least once per episode.
