There's something about her voice that bothers me though I can't figure out what it is. She can carry a tune, but yet I find her voice unpleasant at times.

Halo bugs the crap outta me. It's the repetitive "Halo Halo Halo" thing that makes the writing seem so lazy. That song will soon be forgotten.

I love her.
I don't hate her for her fame because she works her ass off. And she does have actual talent. It's been said a million times but I have never seen her go onstage and half ass a performance. She gives 110% every damn time. Never just goes through the motions. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she performed while very sick. And still blew the roof off the place.
It's refreshing because we see these young pop stars who just coast through with minimal effort. They truly don't seem to give a damn. Go onstage with little preparation and either lipsync (badly) or forget their own lyrics. And people still prop them up like it was the best performance ever.
I'm glad to see it's Beyonce getting the female artist of the decade accolades and not somebody like Britney.
The only reason Beyonce is getting all these awards is because there really is nobody else doing anything. Look who her competition is. Besides Lady Gaga who else is there? Music isn't what it used to be. Twenty years ago nobody would have paid Beyonce any attention.

I like Beyonce, she is not my favorite artist by any stretch, but I like her for several reasons.
1. She seems to work really hard and appreciate her success.
2. She to me is truly talented, (no, she is not everyone's cup of tea, but she can sing and perform live, a rarity these days it seems.)
3. She keeps her personal life private and in a world where there is so much money to be gained from ratting out one's personal life, it's admirable that she has always resisted doing that.
4. I love the fact that she has a curvy body and isn't ashamed of it.
5. She acts humble and appears to appreciate her fans, she certainly gives them their monies worth at her concerts.
6. Finally, I think it's perfectly fine that she wants an Oscar - she is ambitious, (it's not a crime) I think all entertainers are ambitious. Some are just better at hiding it, or more accurately, some presents it in ways that make some people feel more comfortable. Whether she is a rotten actress or not, she is an actress and the Oscars are the highest honors, why not shoot for ithe brass ring? She can't give herself an Oscar, so she will either succeed or fail in her quest for one and if some people think that would be the worse thing ever, they will live, someone feels that way about everyone who has ever won an Oscar.
I think there are more deserving candidate for my disdain than Beyonce Knowles.

I respect her hard work, too, kathy1977. I especially respect that she's bothered to get better than when she first got famous with Destiny's Child. A lot of other performers don't. Beyonce's improved her singing and dancing a ton in the past few years, especially her live voice. Her attitude seems to be that she might not be more talented than you but she will try to out work you, out weave you, out bling you, and out strut you. Really, who expected that she'd marry Jay-Z and then work even harder instead of just retiring in luxury?
I don't even care that she's driven and wants the prizes that come with fame. So she wants an Oscar despite not being able to act? Big deal. That didn't stop Gwyneth or Catharine Zeta-Jones. Beyonce'd better claw, kick, and flip her weave like a demon to get what she wants because she's not in a business that's going to just give it to her.

The only reason Beyonce is getting all these awards is because there really is nobody else doing anything. Look who her competition is. Besides Lady Gaga who else is there? Pink. Alicia Keys. I am sure there are others. They just go about it in a different way. But the numbers are pretty much the same. If not better. Keys has the awards recognition. Pink does not. I like her, as stated she never gives less than 100. But there are others that do too.

Halo was apparently originally written for Leona Lewis but she was too busy to record it, so it went to Beyonce (maybe not specifically written for Leona, but it was kind of ear-marked for her). I'd be interested to hear what it would sound like sung by someone who can actually sing rather than screech the word halo over and over again.

I don't like her songs for the most part, but I do like her if only because she doesn't pimp out her private life and she clearly works her ass off. I respect people who work hard even if I don't like what they do.

I think she's a technically accomplished singer, but I don't hear a lot of warmth in her voice. She is very harsh and almost confrontational with her performances. Singers like Barbra Streisand, Etta James, Billie Holiday, etc. seem to invite you into their songs and want to share their emotions with the listener. I don't know if that makes sense, but with Beyonce there is always a layer of "listen to me, I am PERFORMING." She is a little bit detached and I can't get into her ballads. Her up-tempo songs are fun though.
What Beyonce lacks in talent she certainly makes up for in drive, ambition, and work ethic. She is definitely willing to work her ass off and I respect her for that. Unlike JLo who thinks she should get #1 hit singles, Grammys, and an Oscar just for showing up. Beyonce knows what it takes to be at her elite level and she will put in the time and effort. She doesn't expect anything to be handed to her. Even if she wins an Oscar someday, you know she will have worked for it.
The most genuinely emotional performance I have ever seen from her was when she sang "At Last" for the Obamas at the inauguration. She was genuinely moved by watching them together and you could see it in her performance.
I''m glad she's taking a break though, because she is getting pretty overexposed!

It's the repetitiveness of the word "halo" that does it in for me. She has some songs on B-day that are like crack for me.
I think she's way overexposed. You can be overexposed and not give access to your personal life. It seems as if she's been around constantly for 4 years, without any breaks or downtime.
