The only reason Beyonce is getting all these awards is because there really is nobody else doing anything. Look who her competition is. Besides Lady Gaga who else is there? Pink. Alicia Keys. I am sure there are others. They just go about it in a different way. But the numbers are pretty much the same. If not better. Keys has the awards recognition. Pink does not. I like her, as stated she never gives less than 100. But there are others that do too. It's funny that you bring up Akeys. When Beyonce first started solo, everyone was adamant about AKey being the better singer. I don't hear that anymore not even from rabid Akeys fans. They have a duet together on Akeys latest cd and most agree that Beyonce really outshined her on her own song. I think even a critic or two said the same in reviews pf the album. Akeys voice is getting worse and the excitment behind her being able to play a piano has worn off. She had a hit with Beyonce's husband but the three songs she has released have all failed on the charts. I'm interested to see if her new cd will get any grammy nods. Pink isn't my cup of tea.

Because she is not a huge favorite of mine, I don't really have her on my radar as much, so I don't get the overexposure. I watch maybe 2 award show a year and see her on those usually. I see her on a magazine covers in the check out, I avoid most entertainment shows so I miss her there. I know she does a lot of stuff - singing, acting, dancing, endorsing, but I don't feel innundated (sp) by Beyonce the way I felt about the holy trinity of Brittney/Lindsey/Paris some years ago, now that was overexposure.

I don't mind that she doesn't discuss her relationship, but I find it a little sad that she felt bad about thanking Jay-Z in her Grammy speech. I think she's a technically accomplished singer, but I don't hear a lot of warmth in her voice. She is very harsh and almost confrontational with her performances. Singers like Barbra Streisand, Etta James, Billie Holiday, etc. seem to invite you into their songs and want to share their emotions with the listener. I don't know if that makes sense, but with Beyonce there is always a layer of "listen to me, I am PERFORMING." She is a little bit detached and I can't get into her ballads. Her up-tempo songs are fun though. I agree. She has a nice voice, but I don't feel anything when she sings.

I don't think any of those other female artists present the full package that people want in a performer the way Beyonce does. I remember when she first hit it big as a solo artist, a commentator in Entertainment Weekly said he was surprised she was so successful in a time the industry was crowded with solo females and compared Beyonce to the others by saying JLo was sexier, Christina had a better voice and Britney had more pop appeal. And I thought it was obvious why Beyonce worked, because she was the only one that had a little bit of all those things.

Basically that's my impression of her too. I think she's alright, but not the greatest ever.
The comparison to Tina Turner does bother me at times, because I think Turner sang with more heart.

My god, to the billionth power. To me, there is no comparison, vocally. None. Ok, I'm going, before I get thrown out.

She said something like "I'd like to thank my family for their continuos love and support including my husband." Is that considered some big revelation in their relationship, a husband that loves his wife. That's sharing to much? I don't get the two of them at all, they're relationship seems so weird. I get wanting to seperate their private and public life, but it's like their afraid to acknowledge that they like eachother. They were snapped by paparazzi at som airport in Europe holding hands, but not really they were holding on to some balls, so they're hands weren't actually touching. Weird...

Beyonce and Jay-Z are definately weird. They seem to be playing a constant game in their heads where the public doesn't know they are together. It makes no sense-their wedding was all over the tabloids. I don't get it and I think it's creepy. Then again, Beyonce seems to live a fantasyland anyway, what with her "I'm actually two performers and one of them is named Sasha Fierce!" shit. So I guess it fits.

I think she already tried this with Dreamgirls. All she talked about was how much weight she loss, and how small she had gotten. I didn't see/read the interview that says she has the Oscar poster in front of the treadmill, but that shows me the depth of her pursuit. Getting skinny won't get you an Oscar. If she thinks that the only reason Tom Hanks got his Oscars for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump is because he lost a lot of weight, then she's stupider than she sounds. You have to put (or at least look like you put) your heart and soul on celluloid. I can't think of a Best Actor/Actress winner (whose work I actually saw) who won that didn't totally inhabit a role. Jennifer Hudson sold me as Effie. Bouncy never sold me as Deena. She looked like a neophyte trying to act like someone else. She was more convincing in the Carmen remake she did. Losing the weight, trying to "ugly it up", and wanting it isn't enough. She reeks of effort, and that isn't going to get her very far. She really needs to drop the pageant like antics, and stop looking so damn thirsty all the time. I don't think Beyonce has a down time, or even knows how to relax. She's always looking for what to do next. Not that that's a bad thing, it just makes her look desperate for adulation and validation. JMHO.

I personally think she can sing, but her tone is extremely annoying. I cannot listen to more than one song of hers without wanting to shut off the stereo, so I know damn well I would not be able to handle a concert of hers. Her voice does lack soul. As my mother says, her voice sounds too rehearsed, not natural. Which is exactly the case if her dad had her practicing since she was a child.
I hate that the media seems to hype her overrated ass at every turn. I still remember her or her dad stating that the reason why you could her more even when Destiny's Child would sing was because her voice was oh so powerful. Then I watched some VH1 thing on Destiny's Child and when they were performing at one of the local fairs, gee not one voice stood out when they sang together.
She can be arrogant at times, like when she implied that she would have gotten the role of Effie if she would have gained weight and that she "held back" when singing in Dreamgirls. Bullshit, she wailed the same shit as always.
