I think most performers, especially when they're doing lots of dancing or stunts like Bey and Pink do, have a live vocal backing track. They'd be crazy not to imo. I didn't see it, I know it will make it's way unto blu ray sooner or later, but it makes me a little giddy that she sang Lift Every Voice and Sing in front of that audience. It was mostly live, I believe. There is a backing track, you can hear it on songs like 7/11 or Sorry that have the extra vocals. The only obviously lipped parts was the beginning of Crazy In Love and those Destiny's Child vocals (mainly just the chorus, which is what they always do). But Michelle was not live at all, which I was surprised to see. I've never like the tone of her voice, but she usually outsings Kelly. But Kelly killed it. Oh and we'll never see this on dvd/blu ray. The last concert dvd we got was for the I Am...World Tour. I didn't think she could top the Formation Tour intro, but this did.

Babycakes, I agree with you it was for the wrong crowd but that's part of the reason it was so special. It was like she said to herself she was going to do an unapologetically black performance full of black ideas, tributes and concepts on one of the whitest stages in the world. And she deliberately at the end thanked the audience watching at home. Cos she knew they were the ones she did it for.
I'm a Bey fan and she is always spectacular but this was definitely her best ever.
The only concept I'd have loved to see live on that stage that she left out was the Love Drought song from Lemonade. For those who didn't see it in the video, it's a recreation of the Igbo slave ship that was taken over by the slaves. They grounded the ship and chose to drown in the sea rather than be slaves.
I love how she's evolving as an artist.

Maybe the audio of the crowd was really low or something, but they didn't seem as into as they should have been. A crowd full of fans and stans would have matched her energy, and at least been able to sing back the lyrics to her. Multiple times she held out the mic to absolute silence. I get why she did what she did and where she did it and the point it made. (Really ain't that 'bout a bitch that she's the first black woman to headline Coachella!). But I wish they'd been a more enthusiastic and energetic crowd. She worked her ass off for a muted response. But yeah, I concede it was mostly for the people at home. All my social media timelines are littered with people singing her praises, and lauding her performance. She's being called this generation's MJ. He had his signature performance (Motown 25) and now Beyonce has Coachella. I hope that she does put it out on DVD. The number of people clamoring for it is astronomical. I'm just wondering if she's going to change anything in next weekend's performance. ETA: and I am interested to know also. Not sure how long the link will last, but if you want to see it for the first time, or again, here you go.

I’m not going to watch it. I am just not a fan (I know, I’m the only one on the planet). From what you guys are saying, I think it’s wonderful what she is doing/did for black culture. I’m not hating on that. Just...not a fan of her.

The 'Beyoncé' album was the first one I bought and fully enjoyed. But 'Lemonade' is her best work and my favourite so far. I have to give respect. Performers that can stay super famous for two decades and don't end up dead, crazy, addicted, or broke are like unicorns.

I respect her but I find her incredibly boring. Glad people enjoyed her performance (even if from afar!). Festivals are a crapshoot no matter what. I'm sure a lot of people who would have wanted to see her didn't want to pay to see a billion shitty other acts and posey models and actors all over the place.
[slightly OT rant] Atlanta has a couple huge music festivals every year and I hate when some of my favorite bands perform there because it means they won't do a show of their own here and I might have to go to a stupid festival [rant over].

I'll sit at the table with you.lol I used to really like her back in the DC days and her first couple of albums, but then everything just went over the top for me. Her "rap" on the recent DJ Khalid song "Maybach" just sent my eyes rolling. Ugh. That said, I did see the snippet with the marching band (with "Crazy in Love" and "Lift Every Voice"). I thought that was fun.

I like watching her dance but find her music boring. I just watched a Janelle Monae video and had the same reaction.

Music Midtown has pissed me off with this more than once. I am too old to deal with the drunken festival crowd. I did go see Outkast at Centennial which was awesome, but it takes a lot to get me to go to a show that big. On topic, I have to give Beyonce credit that she knows how to put on a show. She's willing to put in the work to get legendary status. I kinda thought she would fade away once she had babies.

[/quote] There is some imagery for the tour and it doesn't look to be similar. I think she should save it for a solo tour. And next weekend's performance will not be streamed, so I don't expect much to change. I think it'll be the same set list, like when she did Made In America and Chime For Change like three years ago.
