You know what I think is her major problem? Big time, good old fashioned OVEREXPOSURE. She is EVERYWHERE. And she really doesn't need to be. Absolutely this. Thing I really hated was that she was in like a bazillion commercials not too long ago. Like, whatever. Maybe she thought that if she did so many commercials, then it would show that she wasn't afraid to sell out and because she was confident about it, then it would be acceptable. But after a while, it came across as silly.

I like her because of her work ethic. And I like some of her songs, mostly the ones where she's singing about being pissed off. Because I don't think she does ballads well... she just can't modulate her tone into softness that well. She's still a good singer, just not on songs like Halo.
I don't get the Grammy performance... what does an army of stormtrooper-types have to do with the songs she was singing? It's like she was evoking Janet Jackson doing Rhythm Nation, only without the awesome dancing. She stomps up there in a Xena outfit, the tinkly piano starts playing and she belts out If I Were A Boy, and then grabs her non-existent junk. WTF - Jarring.
You can blast me for thinking GaGa is a genius for being just as random, but GaGa owns The Crazy, Beyonce just likes to visit Crazy once in a while and try on the clothes in it's closet. It's like the music... she tries too hard. I still respect her buckets for the work ethic.

The hair she chooses is always awful. It looks like long dark hair that has been bleached light. Which it probably is. I'm not a fan of the "single tone palette" of matching complexion, eyes and hair, in any case!

I thought that was one of the worst performances that I've ever seen from her...all the drama just did not match the song. I totally did not get the stormtrooper opening. I was expecting Ring The Alarm, Single Ladies or some other fast paced song and then she breaks out with If I were a Boy? The performance left me in a "wtf was that mode" and not in a Lady Ga Ga kind of way. I expect wtf from Ga Ga and you are right she is brilliant and I totally embrace her craziness because she has the talent to back it up.

Congrats to Beyonce. Her tour ranked #12 worldwide for 2009, with $86million. BTW Pink was #7 with $103. Source

SourceBey isn't the only hard worker in town -- Pink did 2-3 times as many shows as most of the musical acts on that list. Of the 50 top grossers, only Cirque de Soleil and a dinosaur exhibit had more shows. Pretty impressive, especially given how physically demanding her concerts appear to be.

But, I think Beyonce is a hard worker because she has several more things on the go than Pink: acting career, singing career, promotion for perfume and Loreal etc. It is impressive, particularly since she has been able to keep up with everything without having major breakdowns like Britney and others. She has continued to be sane, respectful of herself and others and well-mannered. Her parents did a great job of raising her, even though she can have a big ego at times. But, I like the fact that she has been able to keep her dignity while dealing with all she deals with in a pretty expansive career. No other pop singer today is involved in as many things as she is in terms of having an expansive career.
Britney never seemed to want to really pursue acting, Christina Aguilera is only now getting into movies and I am not sure about Pink, but Beyonce has viable careers in singing and performing, acting and as a spokesperson for products. I have to respect her for all of that.

Oh yeah, I totally agree. I'm not a big fan of her music (though I like Single Ladies) but I admire her a lot. I think she's a great role model.

Typical Beyonce detail - at her show in London last year, the main tube line to the arena was shut down. It caused a hassle for us on how to get there and for lots of people who live outside London and don't really know much about alternative methods of transport, it probably caused panic. Anyway, at the end of the show, Beyonce actually said to the crowd "Sorry they closed the Jubilee line, I know how hard it was for you to get here and I appreciate it." I thought it was so funny, because it's such a cliche that acts don't even know what city they're performing in, but there's Beyonce, keeping track of the transport news in the area. ETA: The episode of Glee that was shown in the UK last night had the character Rachel running on a treadmill with a picture of an award in front of her. That had to be based on Beyonce, right?
