I vote Hunger, the steve McQueen movie about Maze prison. Best actor I got Bale for the Machinist, Guy Pearce for Memento and (of course) Cillian Murphy for Breakfast on Pluto.

I loved Casino Royale. One of my favorite action movies of the decade. I also love the Bourne films as well which no doubt influenced it.

The only one I've got to submit right now is Babel, a film that didn't impress me the first time I saw it, but which I realized the other day is the only movie I've seen in the past five years that I've found myself thinking about meaningfully in my spare time. There is a lot going on in that one.

Having seen Hunger last night I am inclined to agree. And Michael Fassbender should be a household name and win every freaking award on the planet. How he got his body down to that condition without dying is beyond me. I wanted to jump through the screen and feed him pasta and potatoes.

Another one from this decade I'd call outstanding is The Queen, the most insightful of that strange '06 smattering of films made about very, very private public figures. Helen Mirren was amazing.

Top film of the decade? Hmmmmmm............
To me, the top film would be one I could watch over and over again without any feelings of remorse or guilt. That movie for me is City of God, with Batman Begins, a strong runner-up.
ETA: That's why threads like this can be like quicksand; once you get in, you cannot get out. I'll add Munich, The Contender, Good Night and Good Luck, Iron Man, Nowhere in Africa, Slumdog Millionaire, and The Namesake as well.

ITA. The whole cast was amazing, and it was beautifully directed, too. On my list, I'd also include the LOTR flicks, possibly Milk, and for sure Moulin Rouge. My Guilties of the decade would def. include Bring it On, Center Stage and The Devil Wears Prada. I'm not sure where Julie and Julia should fall between these two catagories, though.

How could I have forgotten The Constant Gardener, a film that fucked me up for like, days? I've rewatched it three times, and I get something new out of it every time, which is the hallmark of a great film to me. I love it because it's so damn subversive--can't think of another film in which Big Pharma has been indicted so soundly. And Rachel Weisz' portrayal of Tessa is stunning.

Super Troopers is my guilty pleasure of the decade. Hilarious and endlessly quotable.
