I have to add Avatar to my list now. I haven't been that filled with awe in a theatre since I saw The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001.

I'll give you Dark Knight, but I don't think Iron Man will have gone down as "Doing anything for the genre", except adding another excellent entry to it. But I don't think it's going to make any significant changes to how they're made, how they're received, or how many more will be made. Which is not to knock it as a favorite.
I think people are really forgetting how big a dent the first Spider-Man and X-Men movies made on the movie landscape because the franchises have run out of steam. (As all franchises tend to do)

Super Troopers is from the 2-thousandsies? I thought that was from the 80's or something. Love that movie!

A few more I forgot to add earlier, from the indie/underappreciated categories: my beloved Far From Heaven, which is one of the only perfect films, The Quiet American, (gorgeous cinematography) Good Night, and Good Luck, The Good Shepherd and Michael Clayton (Tilda Swinton's unremarkability notwithstanding.)
Oh, and Brick, which gets my vote for Most Original of the decade.

On my list, I'd also include the LOTR flicks, possibly Milk, and for sure Moulin Rouge. LOVED Moulin Rouge. My other favorites were Donnie Darko, Living Dolls (for the sheer WTF-ness), Synecdoche, New York, No Country for Old Men, Southland Tales, The Ring, and Step Brothers. I think I have issues.

This was a really good decade for big-budget action movies. I will nth Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight and Star Trek. LOTR and TDK both stand up to repeat viewings - in fact, TDK has been on television a few times recently and it gets better the more times I watch it. I leave Trek out only because I haven't rewatched it enough to say.
Another movie I'd throw in is Red Cliff, with the caveat that I only saw the two and a half hour, edited-down-for-Americans version and not the full length Chinese version. Still, the acting and story were really solid and the final battle was just staggering. On the topic of Chinese language movies, I also completely second Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Other movies that have stayed in my brain, kicking around:
Downfall Good Bye Lenin! Read My Lips Brokeback Mountain The Emperor's New Groove Memento Shattered Glass WALL-E Grizzly Man Amelie Zodiac Bend It Like Beckham Atanarjuat - The Fast Runner Red Eye Dogville The Last King of Scotland Thank You For Smoking Quills The Core... lol, kidding.
Movies I really wish I could nominate because they just missed the cutoff: Office Space and Titus.

I have to add Avatar to my list now. I haven't been that filled with awe in a theatre since I saw The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001. Avatar blew me away too. I had goosebumps for part of the movie because it was so amazing to feel like I was in that world with those creatures. I'm adding it to my Best of list as well.

It's that time again! As we head into the start of the '20s, I would love to know what people would consider some of the best movies of the last decade. I haven't had time to compile a top ten or twenty list but here are some of the titles that have stuck with me.....
Attack the Block Mad Max Fury Road John Wick (Original Recipe) Moonlight 12 Years a Slave The Social Network - I hated it when it came it because I thought it was DAF to make a movie about Zuckerberg and Facebook but damn this was a warning that we all missed. The Arrival Black Panther Get Out Snowpiercer Nightcrawler The Shape of Water War for the Planet of the Apes Spotlight Dredd (don't laugh)
