Okay, I asked Moldy where it would be best to start this.
What are your favorite movie costumes, or movies you love mostly for the beautiful wardrobes? I'd have to say I'm absolutely in love with Kate Winslet's wardrobe in Titanic. Especially the blue velvet "flying" suit, and the lovely floaty pink and lavender sinking gown. Oh SIGH.

1. My Fair Lady, of course! I get such a kick out of the enormous hats.
2. Gigi. The dresses are a 1960s take on turn-of-the-century fashions, so some of them look hilariously dated, but I love Gigi's white dress at the end.
3. Girl with a Pearl Earring, which I didn't care for as a movie, but the torchlit dinner scene was fantastic. The grandmother's huge, massive ruff; the deep bow with choreographed cape flip . . . that's the good stuff.

Orlando (Tilda Swinton starred) - very beautiful costumes. Especially for the Russia sequence and the stately house sequence.
Ahhhh.

In no particular order:
1. Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca and Notorious. 2. Grace Kelly in Rear Window (I want that picture hat) and To Catch a Thief. 3. Liv Tyler in LOTR. I want all of her dresses, but especially the gray flight to the ford riding outfit and lavendar dream sequence dress from TTT.
I'm with you on Gigi, too. In fact, most of the big musicals have at least one dress I want.

I remember being absolutely, utterly, and completely fascinated by the outfits in Gone With the Wind when I was child. The green dress at the BBQ? Just gorgeous.

I'll chime in on the Titanic love. Gorgeous, gorgeous period stuff there.
That red satin dress that Nicole Kidman wore in Moulin Rouge. I guess I could just throw in all the costumes from that movie as well but that red dress was fabulous.

I went crazy over Julia Roberts' brown and white polka dot dress and the matching hat in that scene in Pretty Woman. Thank god, though, I had enough sense not to go out and try to find one like it for myself.
And this isn't something I'd admire in real life but it was so perfect for the character -- In To Die For those crayon colored checked suits Nicole Kidman wore. They were a perfect choice for a character who thought she was more sophisticated than those around her but was actually quite gauche.

Oh, definitely My Fair Lady. Oh, that ballgown! I could just sit and drool over it for hours. Lord of the Rings-my favorite were Eowyn's "shieldmaiden" gown-the white dress with the big open sleeves and the brown vest. And Arwen's dark blue "requiem" dress-with the silver embroidery? In Star Wars, I loved Leia's ceremonial dress at the end of the first one. Although the prequels-the yellow "picnic" gown from Attack of the Clones, with the little rosettes, and then the rainbow lake dress. Or the navy blue dress she wears when she meets up with Yoda and Obi and Anakin for the first time. Her wedding dress. Or in Revenge of the Sith-even her maternity gowns kick ass. Especially the silvery lavender one with the pearl strands (although who the hell would want to wear that to bed? Wouldn't the pearls dig into your arms?) What about Audrey Hepburn's black and white Sabrina ballgown? A friend of mine makes these costumes-well, some of them.

I will chime in for the Titanic love, by saying that I bid $30 for a homemade recreation of the sinking dress, alas I lost (it went for over $50). I will just find the pattern on Ebay when I learn to sew. This Sim site has some Titanic dresses for your Sims 2 sims. I also love Ever After's costumes as well. But then again I am a proud SCAer.
