No love for the fabulous glamosity of the costumes in Velvet Goldmine? Always love for anything about that movie! Especially Ewan's lovely leather trousers and all of Jonathan Rhys Meyer's flamboyant stage costumes and makeup. I also really loved the dress Toni Collette wore when Mandy met Brian Slade for the first time. The costumes in Down with Love were also amazing. The dresses that RZ and Sarah Paulson wore were beautiful. And every outfit that Grace Kelly wore in Rear Window--gorgeous.

DWL-I love the red dress with the purple sash she wears when "Zip" takes her ballroom dancing.
So beautiful.

The Slaves of New York, recently released on DVD, has some gorgeous late-1980s ethnic-goth costumes -- tiny waists, big bouffant skirts, close-fitting velvet jackets, thigh-high stockings, and 'harem' pants -- all done in lovely velvets, silks, and rayons that were a shocking contrast to the Alphabet City and East village exteriors. And word for Bernadette Peters' hats, though they must have been glued to her head to stay on. One looked like a pouchy plaid ashtray with a cigarette butt inside.

I just saw Nanny McPhee, and I thought the bold color choices for both costuming and set design were wonderful. I especially coveted Colin Firth's green velvet morning jacket. It looked like buttah.

The white evening gown Gigi wears on her first and only date as Gaston's mistress in the musical Gigi. I thought that dress was perfection.
When I was a little girl, I thought Leslie Caron as Gigi and Louis Jourdan as Gaston were the most perfect-looking couple in the history of movies.

I found out there's a movie props exhibit here in Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Science Center. It includes the Black Diamonds costume from Moulin Rouge, Rose's boarding suit from Titanic, and some from Pride and Prejudice, I believe. I MUST go to see it!
ETA: dammit, I LIKE period films and costume dramas.

I covet Cate Blanchett's wardrobe in The Aviator and Reese's in Walk the Line.
