What I would not give to be able to buy some of those dresses!

I just looked at the catalog quickly. Wow. I can only say that I really wish she'd been able to fulfill her dream of creating a museum with those pieces, because I would have loved to have seen them in person.

I had no idea that Debbie Reynolds collected all that memorabilia! The white halter dress from The Seven Year Itch? That should fetch a great price at the auction. So long as Lindsay Lohan doesn't buy it.....(nah, she can't afford it)...

I find it fascinating that she has costumes from every movie version of Mutiny on the Bounty ever made.

The June 2011 Harper's Bazaar issue (with Britney on the cover) has a delightful essay by Carrie Fisher about her mom's collection--I enjoyed reading about it. She talks about wishing she'd asked George Lucas for the Princess Leia costume.

Wow. That's one impressive collection. She's got some iconic pieces amongst them. It is a real shame her dream never came true, because that collection definitely deserves to be shown to the public.

Maybe with this auction, the right people will get together to make it happen (we can all dream!)
I have to say I also loved the original Star Wars posters and the Red MG! (in addition to the clothes already mentioned). Basically, I'd be spending millions for the things I want.
I wonder if the Smithsonian will try to grab anything?

I wonder if the Smithsonian will try to grab anything? I hope so! Looking at that catalogue has made me go all Indiana Jones--"It belongs in a museum!"

The Royal Armouries currently has a display of costumes from The Tudors. Flickr photos here.

Double post, but it's been almost a year. Here are some pictures of Marilyn Monroe's proposed outfit for "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The studio decided that it was too risque and the designer made her that hot pink strapless dress instead.
