I love that moment too. Didn't the director want to use completely different music for that scene, but couldn't get the rights? I know that was the case for a lot of the music in the film, but it's been so long since I've seen the director's cut. I know that the "Notorious" SparkleMotion dance was supposed to be to "West End Girls." And the opening scene, with "Killing Moon" was supposed to be an INXS song. I can't imagine the film with anything other than the original release songs. Perfection. The director's cut is an abomination, IMO.

Bumping it up with several moments from De-Lovely, the Cole Porter biopic: Alanis Morrisette's "Let's Do It, Let's Fall in Love," Robbie Williams' "De-Lovely," Elvis Costello's "Let's Misbehave," Sheryl Crow's "Begin the Beguine," Kevin Kline's & John Barrowman's duet of "Night & Day," Vivian Green's "Love For Sale," the "So in Love" number and the "Blow, Gabriel, Blow" finale, all of which were great in their own ways, IMO.

And LaconicDude loves the moment in Kill Bill Vol. 1 just before the showdown at the House of Blue Leavesm, when the Crazy 88 are walking down the hallway in slo-mo and the music there is perfect too (wait, there is music, isn't there? There must be. I can't recall it but he loves it, so I figured I would mention it). I love this scene and yeah, there's some music in it. But my favorite is when The Bride and O-Ren have the swordfight--there's this kind of rocking 70's tune playing and just as it reaches it's crescendo O-Ren slices at The Bride and it stops. Great scene. ETA: Because i can use other descriptive words then "great"

Years ago, a friend bought me Watership Down on VHS. I could only watch it once, because that "Bright Eyes" song by Simon and Garfunkel killed me. I tear up even thinking about it. I had to give the VHS away.

Pretty much the whole movie, but especially the final battle on the ledge in Last of the Mohicans.

My favorite musical moment is from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers when Howard Keel is singing in the barn about the sobbin' women. All the brothers sing along and the music swells and Howard Keel sings over all of them with his big booming voice... it always gives me chills and it's my favortie moment in a movie filled with great moments. The moment is so terrible--he's telling his brothers to go kidnap them some wives, and yet, it works somehow.
I also have to say the the score for Jaws is tremendous. It gives the movie it's atmosphere and it brings on the chills and the dread. Absolutely perfect.
I'm a huge sucker for "You're the one that I want" from Grease. Become a slut to catch your man! But she's such a cute slut and John Travolta has never been hotter.
I have to second the person who talked about Edielweise (sp) from The Sound of Music. When his voice breaks on stage and Maria helps him and everyone starts singing, I start sobbing. Everytime.

There are so many great musicial movies moments that it's hard to pick so I'll stick with one I recently saw in The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. (Yes, I rewatch these all the time and am a Big Geek, why do you ask?) I love Howard Shore's work in all the movies but the scene where the Fellowship is dealing with the lost of Gandalf is so poignant and sad which is due in large part to the music and the high clear voice that's singing. (I don't have my CD near by so can't say whose voice it is, sorry.) It makes me cry every.single.time. That moment and the music in The Two Towers where the Riders of Rohan, led by Gandalf, charge down the mountain. The first time I saw the movie, I just BAM! started crying right then because I thought it was just such a powerful moment.

I don't know if anyone else will remember this, but the scene in Lean On Me when Mr. Clark tells the boys to sing the school song and they unexpectedly break out this beautiful version of it that he hadn't heard just brings me to tears. Especially when Clark pretends to be mad at the music teacher for changing the school song, then praises her for it.
