Topic? Gone with the Wind was my favorite move for about 15 years (mostly because of those dresses!). I love the scene when Rhett scandalizes the crowd by bidding for a dance with Scarlett. It was so great--he knew she hated being left out because she was in mourning for a husband she hadn't even liked, so he found a way to let her dance. She knows she should be scandalized but she doesn't give a fig for what the old biddies think, she just wants to dance. It's not the dancing itself that's so great, it's the chemistry between Gable and Leigh as they banter and flirt. (And, I admit, all those fabulous dresses swirling by in the background.) I only saw it once all the way through. Is that the scene where he says something like "You need to be kissed and often by someone who knows how"? I like that line. All this talk of waltzes reminds me of the version of Madame Bovary with Frances O'Conner. Can't stand the story, it's such a downer but there is an amazing waltz scene in it.

For me, it's the dancing in front of the Coca Cola billboard that makes the movie so memorable.

I think you're working with the wrong kind of people, Foxy!
And, talking of Seven Brides, I finally ordered the DVD from Amazon.co.uk yesterday. They've got it as part of a 3 film set at a special price (am I allowed to say that on the forums? If not, I'm sorry, Moldy!). It comes with Calamity Jane and My Fair Lady, although that one's got me puzzled. I know it's a musical but why put it with two Howard Keel films? I would have preferred Kiss Me, Kate (or a really obscure HK film, Jupiter's Darling)
On topic, I really do love the dancing in The Glass Slipper. That's another fairly obscure film which is, unfortunately, not available on any format. GRR.
The dance when Cinderella believes that the Prince is about to marry the Egyptian Princess is heart-wrenching. Leslie Caron does grief beautifully.

" Don't get hot, 'cause man you got some hard times ahead. Take it slow, and daddy-o, you can live it up and die in bed." Does The Glass Slipper have Richard Chamberlain in it? I may have it on video.

Nope, heavenwithagun, that's The Slipper and the Rose. Oddly enough when I mentioned The Glass Slipper to a friend of mine, she insisted that she had it - that turned out to be the Richard Chamberlain film too. The Glass Slipper (link) was made in 1955, and starred Leslie Caron and Michael Wilding.

I LOVE the scene in Shaun of the Dead where they beat up the zombie to Queen's "Don't stop me now" - it rocks my socks (and Simon Pegg is damn hot!).

The Glass Slipper (link) was made in 1955, and starred Leslie Caron and Michael Wilding. Keep an eye out for a possible run on AMC or Turner Classic. I'm sure I saw it there several years ago. They seem to be running stuff from the 80's and 90's lately. How can they justify using the word "classic"? Leslie Caron is wonderful, especially as Gigi. I don't think they dance during "The Night They Invented Champagne" but it's so lively and cheerful it can almost qualify as dance. Eva Gabor has a nice turn in Gigi as Louis Jourdan's girlfriend who is "not thinking of me (him)", but I digress. PS Richard Chamberlain has always induced meltdown with me. I'm sure if he did something new today, I'd feel the same.

:: blushes:: I taped it off TCM (UK's Turner Classic channel) three times when they showed it. I'd still kill for the DVD though.
And Richard Chamberlain is all kinds of hot in The Slipper and the Rose. When he and Cinders danced together for the first time (at the Bride Finding Ball), it's gorgeous and when he reprised the dance with her slipper because that was all he had left of her, I all but melted. That was also the first real (pre-recorded) video I owned.

I love the dance scene at the prom in "She's all that." Yes, I know, I am a dork.
I also love the dance Leisl and Rolf do to "I am Sixteen."
