The first crush I ever had was born the moment Christopher Plummer took Julie Andrews's hand and they danced the Austrian folk dance the "Laendler". The grace and beauty of that dance was overwhelming and I loved the Captain on the spot. Plus, I love how you can see all those other couples dancing in the ballroom behind them, all in perfect sync. So pretty.

While the rest of You Got Served sucked like Monica Lewinsky on speed, the dance numbers were pretty cool, especially the final dance-off in its last 10 minutes.

While the rest of You Got Served sucked like Monica Lewinsky on speed, the dance numbers were pretty cool, especially the final dance-off in its last 10 minutes. Oh God, that movie was unbelievable. Most dance movies have filler that sucks so I just waited calmly for the next number. I saw it with an all 12 year old audience. The little punk who was selling tickets handed me a senior ticket. I didn't realize it 'til a few hours later. What was the name of the first one? I've got to track it down. It's the most exciting stuff since Riverdance (this from a ballet freak). I was actually on the verge of tears at times.

I really love the "Take off with us" dance scene from All That Jazz. Its Fosse at his absolute best.

I saw this with a bunch of other dancers in class, and we kept asking our teacher why she wouldnt let us have ballet sex.
I think anything with Baryshnikov, Astaire and Kelly should be on this list.
I also loved when I was little, Cyd Charisse's ballet in "Silk Stockings", where she goes from a grumpy hausfrau to all purty.

Foxy, y'all need to get a new job. Okay, not really, but this movie is a classic. My mother introduced me to a bunch of MGM musicals when I was a kid. Whereas some of them had kind of lost their edge, this one and Singin' in the Rain will forever be on my list of favorites. I loved the "Moses Supposes" number from Singin' in the Rain, too. Kelly and O'Connor just look so damned happy.

I second Napoleon Dynamite. My best friend and I even tried to learn it. Umm, yeah, that didn't go so well. But watching it is still a killer time.

You have no idea, Shalamar. The only good thing about this job is the time I spend on these boards instead of actually working. (Which is a frightening percentage. Good thing our IT person is over-worked or I'd be sacked.)
I agree with all the Moses Supposes love. They seem so joyful. It's delightful.
In Love Actually, I love the scene where Laura Linney's character finally dances with Ridiculously Hot Karl at the company Christmas party. Not because the dancing's all fancy, but because they're just so sweet together. When surreptitiously he rubs a lock of her hair between his fingers, it makes me all tingly. That's how slow dancing should be. (And all dance partners should be that delicious.)

Just giving a heads up to dance lovers. I saw Bride and Prejudice tonight and there's some neat dance in it, half traditional Indian, half hip-hop, very invigorating.

My favorite Prologue bit is when three of the Jets (I think Tony Mordente is one of them) are prowling down a narrow alley, looking for some Sharks...hunched over, they do this finger-snapping thing. Kind of random, but I love it.
The "Roxanne" tango in Moulin Rouge is great. I just wish it had been edited so that you could see the dance a bit better. The multi-camera feature on the DVD is great for seeing the number from different angles.
Gene Kelly...*le sigh*. Besides Singin' in the Rain and An American in Paris, I love the dance he does with Judy Garland to the title song in For Me and My Gal.
