Ok. I may get kicked outta here but I love the dance scene near the end of Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.
And I most heartily agree: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a CLASSIC. Man, Julie Newmar was smokin hot in that scene where the girls are all chatting/singing/dancing in the boys' room.

Ok. I may get kicked outta here but I love the dance scene near the end of Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. I'd been waiting for someone to mention that! One of the funniest dance sequences I've ever seen. I also love the dancing from Singin' in the Rain, especially "Make Them Laugh."

1st favourite is Footloose. I remember how everyone(well my friends) insisted that Kevin Bacon was a gymnast who was in the OLYMPICS. I now know this is Not true. 2nd favourite was when Kevin Bacon was on Will and Grace and Sean Hayes was stalking him and they did the dance from Footloose. So funny!

I thought the dance scene with the boys at the train station was good in Oklahoma. The man who played Will was a great dancer.
But West Side story is my favorite, all the dance scenes were very good especially "America".

The Band Wagon is a not so well known Fred Astaire movie, I guess, but he and Cyd Charisse did "Dancing in the Dark" which is SO cool. And then years later Steve Martin and Gilda Radner did a lovely silly parody of the same on Saturday Night Live. Both versions give me a little sappy lump in the throat.
And a big "me too" on Moses Supposes! That's probably my favorite of all the Singin' in the Rain dances.

The "Fit as a Fiddle" number from Singin' in the Rain is my absolute favorite because it is so witty. Kelly and O'Connor sent up the too anxious to please hokum of vaudeville in a manner that was so shameless, you could practically smell the baked ham. So they were great dancers, pretending to be bad dancers, who thought they were better than they were. Got it? And they had the best costumes ever.

The barn sequence and "Lonesome Polecat" from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers are two of the best sequences ever filmed. But it's hard to top Gene Kelly on the street in Singin' in the Rain.

I know it sounds like I'm a total Frida/Salma Hayek freak, which I am, but not as much as posting would lead you to believe:
The "Alcoba Azul" tango in Frida is just wonderful in terms of a dance sequence. It's so incredibly sensual, and the music is perfect. The song has wonderful lyrics, and the dance, while not hugely impressive or over-the-top manages to be very erotic and at the same time somewhat moving. It's really beautifully filmed, as is the whole movie.

Oh, absolutely! I was also amused when I finally saw this and the Air-otica number that my adoration for Paula Abdul's "Cold Hearted Snake" video in my youth was all due to her ripping off Fosse.
Which Chicago did spectacularly well.
No discussion is complete with one of the greatest screen (and very cinematic) musicals, The Red Shoes. There's a full, near 20-minute ballet-slash-acid trip in the middle of the picture that is like nothing you've seen. On the note of surreal ballets, the finale of An American in Paris is worth the rest of the so-so movie. The lighting, the music, the dancing are all perfectly choreographed and working in sync. There's this one moment where Kelly is with Cyd Charisse (I think) and the music turns slow and everything becomes this lush, drunken yellow color. Like a dream. I love how I took years and years of dance but am still amazed people can move like this. To me, it's a greater expression of athleticism and the capacity of the human body than many actual sports.
I posted a link to a videoclip of his latest work in the "pretty" thread, but I curse the gods that Matthew Bourne has yet to film direct. He's the next Fosse, Donen/Kelly, all rolled into one. There is an okay DVD of a filmed performance of "The Car Man" which is sensual, HoYay!-filled and has Will Kemp. For those of you who like that sorta thing. ;-)

I just watched "My Sister Eileen", which has a fantastic dance sequence featuring Bob Fosse himself and Tommy Rall (who played Frank in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers). They had played part of this scene in "Broadway: The American Muscial" during the segment when they discussed Fosse, and I wanted to see the whole thing. It's a lot of fun to watch.
