This is going to be an awesome thread. Right now I'm blank but I'll be back.

Here's a fantasy recast I heard we almost got to see--Jim Carrey as Dr. John Nash instead of Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind. I probably still would have hated the anachronistic storytelling with its blatant historical inaccuracies, but if there's one thing that I simply hate about that film more than any other issue, it's Crowe's performance. Allegedly, Carrey intended to play the part as seriously as Crowe tried to--no Mask-redux craziness or anything like that--and I for one would have preferred Carrey's seriousness to Crowe's. Because? He nauseates me in that movie. Talk about taking a bad idea and making it worse.
Edited because those Stupid Flakes and their "brain-spell-proper" inhibitors sure have some staying power.

In a perfect world, Julian Sands wouldn't have backed out of Maurice. Until my computer animation skills have become leet, I have to mentally superimpose his image over that other guy.
I know the ages of the actors are all wrong, but imagine how much better Some Kind of Wonderful would be with Topher Grace as Keith and Anne Hathaway as Amanda Jones.

In Seabiscuit, Tobey Maguire was too dang tall and the wrong body type to play jockey Red Pollard. They should've cast Seth Green, who's actually pretty close in size and coloring to the real guy (he even had the hair, whereas Tobey had a fake-lookin' dye job). And c'mon, I love Seth, but he's pocket-sized, and a natural to play a jockey. Would've been perfect.

If they were ever to do a remake of Christine, I would love to see John Francis Daley (Sam from Freaks and Geeks)play Arnie Cunningham. He would do great as the geek in the beginning, but I think he would clean up nicely to become "cool" in the end. Also, Scott Mechlowicz (Mean Creek/Eurotrip) would be a great Dennis. John Goodman would be perfect as Will Darnell. I had a hard time thinking of someone young and "innocent" enough to play Leigh Cabot - maybe Carla Gallo (Carnivale/Undeclared)? Meryl Streep as uppity-bitch Regina (Arnie's mother) and John Turturro as doormat Michael (Arnie's dad) would work well. Becky Ann Baker (also from Freaks and Geeks - she played Sam and Lindsay's mom) and Jeff Daniels would work for Dennis' parents, and Mackenzie Rosman (Ruthie from 7th Heaven) could play Dennis' smart-ass sister. The perfect casting for Roland Lebay would be Jack Nicholson, and Patrick Bauchau (Lodz, also from Carnivale) would fit perfectly as Roland's bookish brother, George.
Also, I think inserting subtle little car noises randomly into the sound editing would give it a spookier feel. They should also focus more on how the car became evil - like maybe the blood being shed in the beginning on the assembly line would be the first domino to fall towards Christine being a bad entity. Then, the spewing hatred from Roland, along w/ the sacrifice of his daughter choking in the car (and not being saved by Roland - he lets her die) sets up the car to receive his spirit when he finally kills himself in the front seat. Then, when Arnie buys the car from Roland's brother, George, he becomes possessed by Roland (tying closer to the book), which makes more sense than evil just appearing in this car to making anyone who owns it evil.

Since I thought that Denzel Washington was too old to play the lead in Man on Fire, if I had made it, I'd have replaced him with The Rock. While, acting-wise, he's no DW, I think he's got potential-and what he lacks in talent, he makes up for with pretty.

I would go back and force Francis Ford Coppola to wait till Winona Ryder was better and not let him cast Sofia Coppola as Mary in Godfather part 3

Phantom of the Operarecast Christine with Erika Christensen, (from Traffic), and recast "Rowl" with Hugh Jackman.
While some wanted him to be the Phantom, being torn between a smoldering Gerry Butler and dashing Hugh Jackman would be more beliveable to me on the part of christine having to think hard to make a "choice" between the two guys..
As is, I left the movie theater thinking, now why did she choose Rowl and leave poor, crying, hotter then hell gerry down there??

Something about the way Peter Gallagher speaks makes me think he'd be an awesomely campy Batman and would be able to inject some humor into the role.

ooooh, wonderful idea, bbug! I love PG, regardless of the scary eyebrows.
I bet the studio would think he was too old for the part, but I think he would be a great, super sexy Batman.
