Bumping because I'm kind of fascinated by the Being the Ricardos casting situation. I've heard mixed things about Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz respectively. I fall on the side of thinking they seem miscast, mainly because they are both 15-20 years older than Lucille and Desi were during the time period being depicted. But I haven't seen the movie, so I reserve judgment.
But I'm curious who else might have been a good fit for these roles. An article I read indicated that an unnamed Guatemalan-American actor was approached to play Desi but the scheduling didn't work out -- I'd guess that was Oscar Isaac, who I think might have been a better choice in terms of age and closer physical resemblance. No idea about Lucille, though.

I think the problem with making biopics like Being the Ricardo's is that the audience is looking for actors that LOOK like the real people, but directors need people that can actually act. Everyone kept mentioning Debra Messing for this role, but just because she can cos play as Lucy doesn't mean she has the acting chops to actually play the real life person. Maybe Amy Adams for Lucy? Desi I have no idea but Oscar Isaac would have worked for me!
