I wish I had something dignified and meaningful to recall as my movie cheer moment. Something like the St. Crispin's Day speech from Henry V. But when I read this thread title, I immediately thought of a birthday party where the parents took all us kids to the movies to see...The karate Kid! When Daniel hit that crane stance and then smacked Johnny...the entire theater was cheering. And when Johnny handed Daniel the trophy, telling him "You're alright, LaRusso," we cheered even louder! We were such dorks.
I still smile whenever I catch that moment of the film on tv. I'm still a dork.

I love those scenes, indygirl! Still dorky after all these years...
Two of my personal faves:
Han to Leia: "I love you." Leia to Han: "I know." Way to give it back to him, Leia!
Also, Spiderman 2 when Spidey has saved the subway car, passed out and been gently placed on the floor to recover. His mask was removed during the fight and all the car's passengers are looking at his face remarking on how young and fragile this badass superhero really is. Spidey comes to, realizes he's unmasked and looks really down about it. A kid returns his mask to him and says, "Don't worry. We won't tell nobody." Not only made me quietly cheer, actually made me tear up.
Geek? Why yes, I am!

From that gay-cowboy-flick-slash-crowd-pleaser (wow, sentences I never thought I'd type for a thousand, Alex), Brokeback Mountain, the entire audience broke into applause after the dinner scene in the latter half in which Jack Twist finally tells off his asshole, emasculating father-in-law who already has directly gone against his and his wife's wishes twice in this scene alone with a "Sit down, you son-of-a-bitch!" Everyone was just filled with glee at that moment exploding from what you had seen built up and Jake gave you everything you wanted (mmmmm.... ). Since I've the various threads, the kick-ass moment in the Ring 2 in which Naomi Watts kicks Sumara's ass down the well and out of her life once and for all and sneers, "I'm not your fucking mommy!" Talk about a catchphrase that never happened, but the theatre (and a few reviews, if I recall) was very appreciative. I kinda dug it from a writing perspective as the perfect use of the one allowed F-word for a PG-13.

I love scenes in movies where a character you thought was out of the picture unexpectedly returns at a crucial moment. I think the classic example of this is Han Solo charging into battle to help Luke after you thought he'd deserted them all in Star Wars. And speaking of SciFi -- in Aliens when you think Ripley and the kid are completely on their own and the android shows up again right when you think all hope is lost.
The only version of this type of scene that I can't stand is in courtroom dramas, when it looks like the hero is going to lose and then suddenly the doors crash open and a person who can turn the whole trial upside down dramatically enters.

Batman Begins:
"What the hell are you?!"
Smash, yank
"I'm Batman."
headbutt, sees homeless guy
"Nice coat."
flies away
Call me a geek if you will, but that's the best moment in cinema ever.

And that moment is made all the more better because Christian Bale was Batman. Goodness.
I have so many favorite many moments, but one of my favorites, thanks in part to Viggo Mortensen, and I admit I liked Demi in this movie, G.I. Jane:
Suck my dick!
I think that is the only time, I have ever liked Demi Moore.

My favorite moment is from a film called Greedy that came out in the early 90's. It stars Kirk Douglas as a rich old guy in a wheelchair who's constantly jerking his shallow family around to see if they'll ever come out and ask for money. Michael J. Fox plays the lone family member who the guy likes and comes back to try and make amends.
The end where the old guy claims to have lost all his money and acts like a pill to the kid but they still love him is awesome. The best part, however, is when he reveals that he actually isn't broke and when he tells them they get to live with him and share his wealth... he gets up out of the wheelchair and walks out of the room . This got an absolutely huge cheer in the theater and it remains the only movie I've ever seen to get such a reaction.

Just saw Shaolin Soccer.
The movie was so charming that I wanted to cheer at the end.

In October Sky, I loved it when Homer (Jake Gyllenhaal) and his friends try to prove their innocence of causing a forest fire by using math and then tells the sheriff and principal they couldn't have done it. And the sheriff and principal look all confused because the math's too difficult.
I haven't seen anyone mention it, but I'm a friggen sucker for the scene in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts tells those snooty store clerks off. Yeah!
