He adopted Kim's sister's daughter - Lainie - when he was still married to Kim. It's not like Kim had 2 daughters and he only picked one to adopt. He didn't adopt Kim's other daughter, Whitney, because she has a dad. Not sure, but I think the original poster meant she knew about the adoption of the niece, but hadn't heard about the adoption of Kim's daughter until now. And the "Great move!" was sincere, not sarcastic. OP please correct me if I got it wrong! Nope, you got it right about everything I posted.

I remember reading about an aunt and uncle whose kids he was supporting too, but they had some sort of falling out. I've always thought it would be really awkward to come from a poor family and suddenly have lots and lots of money and Eminem's family made it really, really, REALLY awkward for him. Yeah, I've always felt bad for Eminem in that regard. From all accounts, he had a horrific childhood with his mom. It doesn't sound like any of his extended family stepped in to help out. However, once he got rich it seems like he had relatives crawling out of the woodwork looking for handouts. I wonder how many people he is supporting now? At this rate, he'll never be able to retire.

I do feel for him in that regard too. Eminem spends more on toilet paper than I make in a year, but its more than my deadbeat relatives make and so Im expected to help them out. If i refuse, I get sob stories about the kids not having school supplies and birthday presents. And if the money dries up, they all disappear.
Its a tough situation.

I get a little twitchy (and bitchy) whenever I perceive someone dogging Marshall about his parenting choices. (His choice of spouse and sometimes his lyrics, absofuckinglutely.) I misread your post. Hailie has attended the same schools as my child (elementary and middle school) and he has been BEYOND generous over the years with his time and money. We've watched her grow up into a nice young woman and seen him treat her friends with nothing but kindness, generosity and normalcy. IMO, he's had some very troubled years - especially since the death of Proof and the nonsense he allowed himself to be involved in with Kim - but as someone who is friends with someone who is very close to his family, I truly believe he's turned a huge corner, personally in the past 18 months. Though I was never a fan of his music, I find myself drawn to this last CD because I think he's finally getting his shit together and I hope the best is yet to come for him personally and professionally.

I never really doubted his devotion to his daughter. He's probably a good parent. However, I bet he'd made a lousy boyfriend (or husband).

I've wondered if Hailie would resent the way her dad has put so much of her personal life in his lyrics by the time she reaches the preteen or teen years. It sounds like she's okay with it, though the fact that his choice to share the darkest times of their lives with the world has made them incredibly rich has to help with the acceptance of it. What I really wonder about is how she feels about her voice being included on the track where Eminem fantasizes about killing Kim. Does she even know about that? Does he tell her that it's really just Slim Shady talking and not him? I hope Hailie has some good female role models in her life because her dad has sent her mixed messages about women by showing so much love and devotion towards her while at the same time spewing hatred towards Kim and his own mother, not to mention all the other lyrics about various female celebrities.

If this continues, I chuckle at the thought of her seriously discussing college choices with her dad. I bet seeing her graduate from college would be one of the proudest moments of his life because she'd be the first in the family to do so. I'm so curious though. You said he's been generous with his time and money - what kinds of time commitments to the schools has he made over the years?

I am obsessed with Love the Way You Lie. It's on repeat every day. He's getting a little more complicated with his rhyme schemes. I hope he's getting his shit together b/c he's a talented guy.

So much word to that article. That's what really annoys me about him, he's so whiny and repetitive. Shut the fuck up already, we already know you had a fucked up childhood, you had a horrible relationship with Kim, etc.
Love the Way You Lie? I cannot stand that song, probably because it's supposed to be Hip Hop, yet it's a straight pop song all the way through including the soft guitar. SMH
