There is something sexy about him, and I'm so embarrassed to admit it. Someone slap me!

He isn't the best at anything in my opinion. The shouting can be a bit too much for my liking sometimes. But as I said before I don't consider myself a fan. And I don't listen to him everyday or even every week, but this album is the shit from beginning to end. I like the combination of production, collaborations, and lyrics. He killed it.
Behind all the anger the man must have some sense of humor about himself and can't take everything so seriously. He had Borat's ass in his face for goodness sake.
I also like the fact that he admitted his last cd was eh. I haven't heard one track from it but it is good to hear an artist admit when something is crap. A lot of them would never do it.

Well it does matter when said people proclaim someone to be the best or so good at something that they know nothing about. To me it doesn't make any sense at all. If you like him and his music, I don't care, but when someone comes out with I don't listen to rap, but he's the best I've ever heard, etc it's like wtf? It's like someone saying Oasis is the best band ever and have never even heard of the Beatles much less their music. It matters because people that don't know about Hip Hop are hoisting these people up and proclaiming them as fab left and right. People say that the music industry sucks real hard now, I agree. Unfortunately Hip Hop is one of the worst off because of it. I think I've said my bit so maybe I should walk on out of this thread because he is evidently liked as a rapper here. This makes sense.

I like Eminem, but I do think it's because he is more mainstream than most rap, which works better for a white girl from Utah.
(I also hate The Beatles and like Oasis, so what do I know?)

Yeah but you know who they are, you've heard their music. Most get a deer in the headlights look when I mention KRS-One, Rakim or Masta Ace. Shame really. I used to find him insanely hot round the 2nd album, but I don't know, for some reason the dark hair does nothing for me, at least not like what it did during 8 Mile. Or maybe I still have that image of the bright chapstick and bloated look he had going a few years ago?

I don't even think of Eminem as a rapper and really never have. It might be because he came up at a time in music when the Disney kids like Britney and N'Sync were taking over and Eminem's image was less about being a rapper and more about being the alternative to sugar pop. Korn and Limp Bizkit were also coming onto the scene at that time and Eminem again became an alternative to rock + rap = crap. He was so popular with the mainstream audience as his Slim Shady character from the get go he never had a chance to be "underground" or "hardcore" and work his way up. That depends on how you look at it. If more people knew who any of these rappers are that would mean they would be more popular and become part of the mainstream. It's kind of a no win situation. I find it easier to just enjoy the music I like and not worry about the politics and history behind it. If I like an Oasis song I listen to it. I don't care if they are a Beatles ripoff. Same with someone like Lady Gaga. I enjoy her songs and forget about how much I can't stand her fakeass. That might be because I'm older, though. I haven't been a serious fan of any particular musician since around 1995.

I find it easier to just enjoy the music I like and not worry about the politics and history behind it. This. I've never been on the cutting edge of anything, especially music. I like what I like and I listen to what I like. I like exactly one Eminem song, therefore, it is on my iPod and I listen to it occasionally. Why I should care about the complicated reasons why this is supposedly a bad thing is beyond me. I didn't care when my brother mocked me for liking The Wallflowers because one of their songs borrowed a riff from The Clash, and I don't care about why I apparently have no right to like that one Eminem song.

Whoever said you had no right to like his music? Please do not twist my words. I simply said that when people proclaim his as the best rapper out there, the best they've ever heard when they don't know or listen to Hip Hop, it doesn't make sense. How would someone know whether someone is so good or the best at something they don't listen to? That is what annoys me, not people liking his music.

this is my o/t question for the day (Looked in music and didn't see a thread that seems right). I live in my own little world and so don't know much about music. I recently discovered Wu Tang (please don't mock, people) and people in this thread are knowledgeable. What cds/ songs do you recomend? I know this isn't the correct thread for this question so please let me know where to post? thanks.
