Boardwalk Empire is an American television series from premium cable network HBO, set in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the Prohibition era. Starring Steve Buscemi, the show is adapted from Nelson Johnson's book, Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City by Emmy award-winning screenwriter and producer Terence Winter of The Sopranos.

The first episode was directed by Martin Scorsese. On September 1, 2009, HBO picked up the series for an additional 11 episodes. The series is scheduled to debut on September 19, 2010.
Filming was done on a specially created set in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Kinda meh on the pilot but I'll keep watching. The show looks like a million bucks though. Actually, $50 million from the articles I've read.

Was meh, too, on the pilot but will give it a try for a few more episodes. And even if they never mentioned his name, I'd have known that was a Scorcese-directed production.

I liked this although it didn't blow me away--well, that's wrong, the visuals did. I like the whole cast, I'll keep watching. Hopefully Michael K. Williams gets more than one line in the future.

I'll give it a few more episodes, hopefully once it's past the introducing the characters stage it'll get better.

I loved this line from the recap on EW, "Other details I liked: Gratuitous bush shot on a female corpse. How else will I know I’m watching HBO?"

I watched the first hour and switched to Mad Men. Honestly, I was underwhelmed. I think I've had too much Scorsese/Sopranos/Jersey mob/HBO for one lifetime. I felt like I'd seen it all a hundred times before.

I forgot about the premiere. I'll have to watch it on OnDemand. Rolling Stone's reviewer said the first episode is a bit slow but that the next couple start to really pick up.

From what I checked out on the HBO site, Williams has a bigger presence later on.
