Pitt's acting kept reminding me of DiCaprio, actually. Maybe it was just the way he smokes? I don't know, I definitely see the similarity.
I REALLY liked this. I am a sucker for gangster/mafia/'20s/Scorsese, so I was kind of in 7th heaven.

This moved faster than the premiere. As long as Pitt's around, I'll watch this. Still patiently waiting on Williams as well.

I like this show so far and am curious to see the rest of the season. Michael Pitt drew me in and I like what he has done so far as well.

So was Gretchen Mol Michael Pitt's MOM??? Because that was a weird scene when he greeted her and she was fairly naked, but I could have sworn he said "Ma." ?

Same reaction here. I thought she was his mistress but I also heard 'Ma'.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that was bizarre. But yeah, she played his mother. IRL, she's only 8 years older than Pitt and pretty much looked like only a few years older than Pitt on the show. Really confusing - and distracting.
And I am trying to like this show. I really, really, want to like it but am just not feeling it right now.

Yeah, she like, humped him. WTF?
Boyfriend thinks that Nucky is Jimmy's real dad. I think that's too obvious.

I think it's unclear whether he's Jimmy's dad--like he & mom had a "thing" but she never pressed him on it but he felt some responsibility. Maybe her age -- what was she, 17 when she had him? was a sticking point. But he loves the young ones...who knows.
Can someone explain Jimmy's girl getting slashed? Was it some sort of retaliation (against Al maybe) or just some psycho? She seemed so naive and nice. And him coming with a gang who shot up the joint made me think payback too--maybe Al's wife is too high up but they could get to Jimmy's girl. Hearing Chalky's story about his father gave me goosebumps. "Well I ain't makin a bookshelf." I freakin' love Michael Williams.
I had a hard time understanding all the ethnic groups being played and insulted in the last two eps too: blacks, clearly, and the Irish, but Greeks, and maybe Catholics. A couple of slurs went over my head, and I've heard most of them (unfortunately) from living here.
Lastly I think Stephen Graham is a fantastic Al Pacino. It's unsettling that Graham is IRL a very quiet, shy guy. I read somewhere that after his Guy Ritchie movies made him money a bunch of guys got into a really violent fight with him (morons who mistook him for his character) in his hometown--now he refuses to go back, which just sounds tragic.

I think it was retaliation against Al and Jimmy by the Irish mob they had met with earlier. I'm having trouble keeping all the gangsters straight tbh. I liked Jimmy's storyline this past episode but for the most part I think he is the weakest part of the show. I loved Chalky's monologue and I hope we see a lot more of him. My favorite parts of the show actually deal with seeing the way the underprivileged lived in that time period (Chalky, the women, the midgets). I am less interested in all the mobster shenanigans.

I have to wrap my head around Steve Buscemi being the somewhat understandable love interest in this show... the man has power, social skills, a great wardrobe and all his teeth... what more could a girl want back then?
