Williams is in the extended ads they have been running the past few weeks. Of course, I kept thinking, "no way Omar would have to wait in the lobby for that long." Michael Pitt didn't annoy me, which is a first. I enjoyed it, but I am interested in the time period.

I concur with almost everything that's been said - looks beautiful but kinda slow and, more importantly, felt like something I'd seen countless times before.

I loved this line from the recap on EW, "Other details I liked: Gratuitous bush shot on a female corpse. How else will I know I’m watching HBO?" Heh. Boy, that was one fake looking merkin on that corpse, wasn't it? Also distractingly fake were the babies (that reminded me of the baby from Trainspotting) in the incubator store. And were there really incubator stores on the boardwalk?!

I know right? The fact that the woman had no other body hair aside from the bush really negated that pathetic attempt at authenticity. The babies looked like tiny animatronic versions of Steve Buscemi. Very creepy.

I, too, thought it was a bit slow. The storyline I found most compelling was Kelly McDonald's.
On an unrelated note, Michael Pitt used the word "Skeezix," to refer to his son, which I just found out is a character from the cartoon of the period, "Gasonline Alley." My dad used that word in my childhood and I just realized it was a name from a character from his childhood (a little after, I think he was born in 1939). Good research, I'll give them that.

Buscemi's character seems kind of wimpy. Or unusually kind for a supposed hardass.
I'm thinking that's probably temporary, he'll probably go all Al Swearengen in an episode or two. In the meanwhile, the clothes and settings are pretty enough to keep me happy until he does.

It's been renewed for a second season already.

I watched the first episode last night and liked it. I didn't mind the slower pacing. There were a lot of characters to introduce and storylines to get started in just over an hour. I adore Steve Buscemi and was pleasantly surprised by Michael Pitt. I've always liked him, he draws me in somehow, but has tended to play creppy/odd characters. I squeed when Michael Shannon first appeared. I will definitely be watching.
ETA: I kept staring at the guy who plays a young Al Capone trying to figure out who the hell he was. Turns out he played Combo in This is England. He's really good. I hope he's in more episodes.

Michael Pitt looks exactly like my son's 12 year old best friend... I want to give him a hug and make him a sandwich. It's funny how resemblances like that can affect a person's opinion of an actor.

I read a review that compared Pitt to DiCaprio as Scorcese's muse, but other than them both having wide faces, I didn't sense any similarities.
